1. Coaches and athletes do the talking

TrainingPeaks has 13 creator videos in its sample, 7 on Instagram and 6 on TikTok, from 12 different accounts. The brand's own @trainingpeaks posts 2, about what it takes to ride 600km. The rest come from the sport: a Brazilian coach explaining TSS, a Spanish rider on durability in cycling, an athlete going from 39 to 98 CTL in 12 weeks, a beginner runner on TikTok saying value this, it took work. These are people who already use the app's metrics in public, so every post teaches the product's language. Coaches have a metric worth posting about, so TrainingPeaks gets content without paying for each post.

2. Indoor climbs and plan ads

The Meta ads sell two things. The oldest pair, at 242 and 241 days, sell TrainingPeaks Virtual: train smarter indoors with real climbs and real physics, and upload any GPX file to ride your own route. A third offers the Stelvio and Alpe d'Huez. Then come plan ads: level up your training, find your cycling, marathon or triathlon plan today, and 4 Spanish ads inviting riders to try the app on web, mobile and virtual in their own language. 10 of the top 12 are images and all link to the web. Famous climbs speak to cyclists by name. The ads name the iconic place or the race the athlete dreams about.

3. Older athletes, premium yield

TrainingPeaks earns an estimated $50.4 per download. The price list is short: $19.99 a month, $48.99 a quarter, or $119.99 or $134.99 a year, a 1.1x annual spread, at 50% of 12 monthly payments. Meta Ad Library spend estimates skew old: 30.8% at 65+, 29.8% at 55-64 and 21.0% at 45-54, aimed 68.8% at men. Older endurance athletes have money, time and a race calendar, and some likely pay because a coach asks them to. Revenue rose 3.4% over 300 days, from $487K to $504K. The reviews are tougher, 3.06 stars across 200, with complaints about upsells. The target is the committed, older athlete.

4. The measurement gap

TrainingPeaks gets reach from 12 coaches and athletes and paid ads for virtual climbs and race plans, then sells a $119.99 or $134.99 year. Which source brings a premium athlete who renews each season: a coach's post, a Stelvio ad or a marathon plan ad? With $50.4 per download, each source is worth tracking.

How to measure a playbook like TrainingPeaks's

TrainingPeaks gets reach from 12 creators and runs 72 active Meta ads to the web. Tying each coach post and ad to a $119.99 or $134.99 yearly plan is the measurement job.

  1. 01

Give every creator their own tracking link

Put one link in each creator bio, caption or landing page. Installs from that link count for that creator instead of showing up as organic.

  2. 02

Upload what you pay each creator

Add creator fees with a CSV cost upload and use the creator name as the campaign. You get cost per install for each creator next to your paid channels.

  3. 03

Connect RevenueCat to see who brings payers

Subscription events flow into the same report, so you see which creators bring people who start a trial and keep paying.

How we built this teardown

  • Revenue and downloads are third-party estimates from AppKittie, snapshot Oct 16, 2026. Store intelligence estimates for a single app can be off by 30% or more. Treat them as a range, not a figure from the developer. Daily revenue and download series cover 300 days ending Oct 18, 2026.
  • Ads come from the public Meta Ad Library. "Days live" counts days since an ad first appeared. Spend and audience breakdowns start from Meta's EU transparency figures; country splits outside the EU are AppKittie models.
  • Prices, ratings and ranks come from the App Store (US storefront) on the same date. Prices differ by country and by paywall offer. Review stats use the latest 200 US reviews from Apple's public review feed.
  • Category medians are computed across 147 Health & Fitness apps with active Meta ads in our set of 860 subscription apps.
  • Written by Hyunjong Choi. Ads, prices and estimates are refreshed every 30 to 90 days. Updated Oct 19, 2026.
