Common questions
What are common reasons apps get rejected?
Crashes, placeholder content or a missing demo account (Guideline 2.1), metadata that doesn't match the app (2.3), a missing privacy policy or in-app account deletion (5.1.1), unlocking digital content without in-app purchase (3.1.1), and apps that are little more than a website (4.2). The checker scans your text for the metadata ones and turns the rest into a checklist.
Can I put "free" or "#1" in my app name?
Avoid it. Guideline 2.3.7 says app names and subtitles shouldn't include prices or pricing information, and subtitles can't make unverifiable claims like "#1" or "best". Names are limited to 30 characters and should describe the app, not game search with popular app names or trademarks.
Can my app link to my website to buy a subscription in the US and Canada?
On the United States storefront, yes: apps may include buttons and links to buy digital goods on the web. Outside the US, apps generally can't link to other purchase methods, and Apple's entitlements cover specific storefronts. Show those links on the US storefront only unless you've confirmed otherwise.
What does App Review check besides my listing?
Reviewers install the app and use it the way a customer would, comparing it with your description, screenshots and privacy answers. They sign in with the demo account you provide, look for every in-app purchase you've submitted, and read your Notes for Review, so describe new features there specifically.
What happens if my app is rejected?
App Store Connect tells you which guideline it was. Fix the issue and resubmit, or reply in App Store Connect if you think the reviewer missed something, with specific details. If you believe a guideline was applied incorrectly, you can appeal to the App Review Board.
If the checker finds nothing, will my app be approved?
Not necessarily. It only checks the text you paste and reminds you of rules it can't see. App Review decides based on your app, its behavior and the current guidelines, and your team decides what to ship. Use it as a second pair of eyes before you submit.
