How it works

How to use the Google Play fee calculator

  1. 01

    Pick the buyer region

The US has used Google's updated fees since June 30, 2026. Canada still uses the previous 15% and 30% tiers until September 30, 2027. Other countries are in the list too.

  2. 02

    Choose how people pay

Google Play Billing adds a 5% billing fee in the US. Alternative billing and external web links skip it, but you pay your own payment provider.

  3. 03

    Enter your revenue

Split monthly revenue into subscriptions and one-time purchases. They're charged differently once you pass $1M a year.

  4. 04

    Compare payment paths

See what the same revenue would cost on each path, with Google's fees and provider fees combined, and every formula in the trace.

FAQ

Common questions

How much does Google Play take from app sales in the US?

Since June 30, 2026, Google charges a 10% service fee on the first $1M of annual earnings and on all auto-renewing subscriptions, plus a 5% billing fee when the purchase goes through Google Play Billing. That makes 15% for most apps. Above $1M a year, one-time purchases carry a 20% service fee from new installs and 25% from existing installs, plus the billing fee.

How much does Google Play take in Canada?

Canada still uses Google's previous fees: 15% on the first $1M of earnings each year and on all subscriptions, and 30% on other purchases above $1M, for developers enrolled in the 15% service fee tier in Play Console. There's no separate billing fee. Google plans to move Canada and other remaining markets to the updated fees on September 30, 2027.

What's the difference between the service fee and the billing fee?

In the US, Google splits its charge in two. The service fee applies whichever way the customer pays: Google Play Billing, alternative billing or an external web link. The 5% billing fee only applies when Google Play Billing processes the payment.

Is it cheaper to use alternative billing or a web link in the US?

Google's share drops from 15% to 10% because the 5% billing fee goes away, but you pay your own payment provider instead. With Stripe Billing at 3.6% plus $0.30 per charge, a $50 charge costs about 14.2% in total instead of 15%. Below about $21 per charge, the fixed fee makes alternative billing more expensive than Google Play Billing. The comparison in the calculator shows both costs together.

What counts as a new install?

A US user whose first install or first update from Google Play happened on or after June 30, 2026. Users from before that date are existing installs. The difference only matters for one-time purchases above $1M a year: 20% from new installs and 25% from existing installs (20% through external web links).

What do the Apps Experience and Games Level Up programs change?

In the US, developers who enroll and pass validation get lower fees on one-time purchases above $1M a year: 15% from new installs and 20% from existing installs (15% through external web links), plus the billing fee where it applies. Subscriptions and the first $1M stay at 10%. The programs aren't available in Canada yet.

How do I see Google Play revenue by ad campaign?

Play Console and your subscription tool report what each product and country earns, not which Meta, TikTok or Google ad brought the subscriber. To see revenue by campaign you need attribution: each install is matched to the ad click that drove it, and later trial starts and renewals are tied back to that campaign. Then compare each campaign's revenue, after Google's fees, with what you spent on it before you scale the channel. Airbridge Core does this with subscription revenue synced from RevenueCat, Adapty or Superwall. $40+/mo after a 30-day free trial, no annual contract.

What isn't covered?

Paid app downloads, the Play Media Experience Program, alternative app stores, and payment provider pricing beyond the presets. The calculator counts the $1M tier from your revenue excluding tax × 12 and spreads it evenly across the year. Other countries are in the list, but this page focuses on the US and Canada.
