How it works

How to write release notes with it

  1. 01

    Pick the update type

Bug fix, feature update, major release or performance. Each one changes the fields and how the notes are laid out.

  2. 02

    List your changes

One change per line. Press Enter to add the next one. Add a headline and a short summary for bigger updates.

  3. 03

    Choose a tone

Friendly, neutral or brief. The tone sets the intro and closing lines; your changes stay as you wrote them.

  4. 04

    Copy for each store

Switch between the App Store and Google Play versions, check the character count and store checks, then copy.

FAQ

Common questions

How long can App Store release notes be?

Up to 4,000 characters. Apple calls the field "What's New in This Version". It isn't available for an app's first version and is required for every version after that. You set it in App Store Connect when you submit the new version.

How long can Google Play release notes be?

Up to 500 Unicode characters per language. In Play Console you enter each language's notes between its language tags, for example <en-US> and </en-US>. The generator shortens the Google Play version to fit and tells you what it removed.

Can release notes ask users to rate the app or update?

Not on Google Play. Google says release notes should describe the update and not be used to promote the app or ask users to take action, so the generator leaves the closing line out of the Google Play version and flags promotional wording. The App Store version keeps the closing line.

What should release notes say for a bug fix update?

Apple's App Review Guideline 2.3.12 allows a generic description for simple bug fixes, security updates and performance improvements, but significant changes must be listed. Naming the fixes users noticed, like a crash or a sync problem, still tells them the update is worth installing.

Can I mention Android in App Store release notes?

Avoid it. Apple's guideline 2.3.10 says app metadata shouldn't include names of other mobile platforms or app marketplaces. The generator warns you if the App Store version mentions Android or Google Play.

Do the stores support formatting in release notes?

Both stores show plain text with line breaks. Markdown and HTML aren't rendered, so the generator uses plain bullets (• or -) and blank lines between sections.

Is my text sent anywhere?

No. The generator runs in your browser and nothing you type is saved or sent to a server.

How do I send users from an ad to a new feature?

Use a deep link, which opens the app on a specific screen instead of the home screen. For people who don't have the app yet, deferred deep linking keeps the destination through the install, so they land on the feature the first time they open the app. Put the link in your ads and announcements, then compare day-7 retention for users from each campaign to see whether the feature keeps them. Airbridge Core includes deep linking, deferred deep linking and retention reports by campaign. $40+/mo after a 30-day free trial, no annual contract.
