How it works

How to use the App Store fee calculator

  1. 01

    Pick the storefront

Apple's rates depend on where the customer's App Store account is registered. The US allows link-outs to web checkout; Canada uses Apple's standard terms. Other countries are in the list too.

  2. 02

    Enter revenue and programs

Add your monthly In-App Purchase revenue, an optional link-out path in the US, and any Apple programs you're enrolled in.

  3. 03

    Read the breakdown

Net proceeds, Apple's commission and your effective fee rate update as you type, with every formula in the calculation trace.

  4. 04

    Compare payment paths

See what the same revenue would cost through In-App Purchase or a link-out to web checkout, payment provider fees included.

FAQ

Common questions

How much does Apple take from App Store sales in the US and Canada?

Apple's standard commission on In-App Purchase of digital goods and services is 30%. It drops to 15% for members of the App Store Small Business Program, the Video Partner, Mini Apps Partner and News Partner programs, and for auto-renewable subscriptions after a subscriber's first year of paid service. Most small subscription apps pay 15%.

Can US apps link out to a web checkout without paying Apple?

Yes, for now. Since the April 2025 injunction in Epic v. Apple, apps on the US storefront can link to an outside checkout and Apple charges no commission on those purchases. You still pay your payment provider, such as Stripe. In December 2025 the Ninth Circuit said Apple may ask the court for a reasonable fee, and on August 13, 2026 Apple proposed 15%, 10% for partner programs and subscription renewals, and 5% for the Small Business Program. The court hasn't decided. Advanced mode lets you preview the proposed rates.

Can apps in Canada link out or use other payment providers?

No. The Canadian storefront uses Apple's standard terms: digital goods and subscriptions sold inside the app go through In-App Purchase at 30%, or 15% at the reduced rate. The link-out rules that apply in the US don't extend to Canada.

Who qualifies for the App Store Small Business Program?

Developers who earned no more than $1 million in proceeds in the previous calendar year across all their apps and associated developer accounts, plus developers new to the App Store. You have to enroll in App Store Connect. If you pass $1 million during the year, the standard rate applies to sales after that. The calculator estimates your yearly proceeds as monthly In-App Purchase revenue × 12.

When do subscriptions drop to 15%?

After a subscriber accumulates one year of paid service in the same subscription group. Free trials don't count toward the year. If a subscription lapses for more than 60 days, the count starts over. Turn on advanced mode and enter an average subscriber lifetime to see the blended rate.

Is Apple's commission charged before or after tax?

After. Apple calculates its commission on the price excluding sales tax. US App Store prices are shown before sales tax, so leave the tax rate at 0% unless your revenue figure includes tax. Payment providers such as Stripe charge on the full amount the customer pays.

How do I see App Store revenue by ad campaign?

The App Store and your subscription tool report what each product and country earns, not which Meta, TikTok or Google ad brought the subscriber. To see revenue by campaign you need attribution: each install is matched to the ad click that drove it, and later trial starts and renewals are tied back to that campaign. Then compare each campaign's revenue, after Apple's cut, with what you spent on it before you scale the channel. Airbridge Core does this with subscription revenue synced from RevenueCat, Adapty or Superwall. $40+/mo after a 30-day free trial, no annual contract.

What isn't covered?

Paid app downloads, apps distributed outside the App Store, and reader apps that link out under Apple's reader app entitlement. Storefronts outside the US and Canada are in the list with Apple's terms for each, but this page focuses on North America.
