Screenshots and why they convert

8 screenshots of up to 10, the first 6 shown here. The first 3 show in search results when there's no preview video.

  1. Screenshot 4: Classic Text Stickers & Font Pairings
  2. Screenshot 5: Create Unique Vibes with Text Effects
  3. Screenshot 6: 1400+ Fonts Simply Search by Styles
  1. #1In search results

Best app for creating social media content

    • social medianot in name
    What it shows
A portrait photo with a before/after slider and “AI Retouch” in script type, above a grid of tools (Stickers, Templates, Fonts, Background, AI Eraser, AI Sticker, AI Retouch, Wallpaper) and a strip of template thumbnails.
    Why it converts
The tool grid shows the range of things the app does in one frame. The caption is a general claim (“Best app”) that the app makes for itself, so the tool names and the photo do the explaining.
  2. #2In search results

    Tons of Gorgeous Story Templates

    • story templatesnot in name
    What it shows
Tilted story templates on a dark background: a Capitol building photo with “Diary”, a “NEW POST” layout, and a “Happy” card.
    Why it converts
Shows the output a visitor would get, in several styles. The tilted layout gives a sense of volume. The caption words name what people look for: story templates.
  3. #3In search results

Download Stickers for Social Media Content

    • stickersnot in name
    What it shows
Chips for TikTok, Reels and Capcut above a photo sticker pack with “Happy weekend” and “Love” script, and a download button.
    Why it converts
Names the places the stickers are used, which gives concrete use cases instead of a vague promise. “Stickers” is a feature word people look for.
  4. #4

Classic Text Stickers & Font Pairings

    • text stickersnot in name
    • font pairingsnot in name
    What it shows
A photo with an editing toolbar and a panel of rounded tiles, each a photo with a word in a different font, and a hand cursor tapping one.
    Why it converts
The tiles let a visitor see the font styles directly. The cursor shows the action. The caption names two features people look for.
  5. #5

Create Unique Vibes with Text Effects

    • text effectsnot in name
    What it shows
A phone editor with “ROMANCE” set on heart shapes, with a row of text effect presets below and a size slider.
    Why it converts
One effect is shown large, so it reads at small size. “Unique Vibes” is vague, but “Text Effects” in bold names the feature.
  6. #6

1400+ Fonts Simply Search by Styles

    • fontsnot in name
    What it shows
A phone editor with “HAVE A NICE DAY” in a handwritten font, style chips (Playful, Handwriting, Classic, Elegant) and a font list below.
    Why it converts
A number and a clear way to find fonts. The style chips show how a visitor would narrow the choice. The number is the app's own claim.

Icon and design system

What makes the page read as one brand at a glance.

120px
60px
40px
  • One shape, a curved v with a dot, on a plain dark background.
  • No text and little detail, so it should stay clear at small sizes.
  • Dark and white match the dark backgrounds and white captions in the screenshots.
  1. 01

    Bold keyword in most captions

Most captions have a light first line, then the feature name in bold white.

  2. 02

    Dark backgrounds

Most images use a charcoal background with white type. It matches the icon and keeps the set looking like one system.

  3. 03

Most images show their own output

Templates, stickers, text effects and fonts each appear as finished results, not only as menus.

  4. 04

    Platform names as chips

TikTok, Reels and Capcut sit above the sticker pack. They tell a visitor where the content can be used.

  5. 05

Tool grid in the first image

Eight tool names are visible in screenshot 1, so a visitor sees the range before swiping.

Where the points are

  1. Ask happy users for a rating+9 pts

4.8 stars from 1,644 ratings. Apple's in-app rating prompt can be shown up to 3 times a year; show it right after a user finishes something in the app.

  2. Check caption terms against your subtitle and keywords

7 caption terms aren't in the app name: social media, story templates, stickers, text stickers, font pairings, text effects, fonts. Captions don't count for search; the subtitle and the 100-character keyword field do.

Apply it to your app

A checklist for your next product page update.

  • Show the main thing your app makes in screenshot 1, not only a menu.
  • Set the feature name in bold in each caption.
  • Name the places your output is used, such as the platforms.
  • Show a finished result in each image, with the control next to it.
  • Use one background and one type style on every image, and match them to the icon.
  • Put a concrete claim, such as a font count, in place of a vague one like “Best app”.
How it works

How the ASO score works

  1. 01

    App name, 25 points

Up to 10 for how much of Apple's 30 characters it uses, 10 for a brand + keyword structure, 5 when keywords fill half the name or more.

  2. 02

    Screenshots, 35 points

Captions on every image, captions that name searched features, a first screenshot that shows the main use, one design system, readability at search size, and a trust signal.

  3. 03

    Ratings, 25 points

Up to 15 for the average (from 4.0, full marks at 4.8) and 10 for the count (from 1,000, full marks at 100,000 ratings).

  4. 04

    Freshness, 15 points

Full marks for an update in the last 30 days, falling to zero at 180 days. 85+ is excellent, 70+ strong, 50+ fair.

FAQ

Common questions

What is an ASO score?

A 100-point check of the parts of an App Store page you control: the app name, screenshots, ratings and how recently the app was updated. It's our own scoring rule, shown in full on this page, not a number from Apple. Use it to compare your page with apps that already sell well in your category.

How long can an app name be on the App Store?

30 characters. A common pattern is a short brand followed by the main thing people search for, like “Vivisticker: Carousel & Story”, which uses 29. Apple also gives you a 30-character subtitle and a 100-character keyword field for more terms.

Which screenshots show up in App Store search results?

The first one to three, when the app has no preview video. That's why the first three should cover the main reasons people download. Vivisticker uses them for social media, story templates and stickers.

How many screenshots can an iPhone app have?

Up to 10 per device size. Apple recommends focusing each screenshot after the first on one main benefit or feature. Vivisticker uses 8.

Where do the download and revenue numbers come from?

They're third-party estimates for the US App Store, not figures reported by the developer. Treat them as a sense of scale. Growth compares the latest month with the month before.

Do screenshot captions help an app rank in search?

Apple says search results use text matches in the app name, subtitle, keywords and primary category, plus user behavior such as downloads, ratings and reviews. Captions aren't on that list: they help people who already see the app decide to download. When a caption names something people search for, put that term in the keyword field too.
