Screenshots and why they convert

8 screenshots of up to 10, the first 6 shown here. The first 3 show in search results when there's no preview video.

  1. Screenshot 4: Your health, in every answer
  2. Screenshot 5: Your data Kept private
  3. Screenshot 6: Bring your health data together
  1. #1In search results

    Before doctors, beyond records

    • healthnot in name
    • recordsnot in name
    What it shows
A Timeline screen with sleep, steps, resting heart rate and other daily numbers, a note field with Photo and Upload buttons, and floating tags “Health memo”, “Upload” and “Photo”. A footer line reads “Your whole health story, always in context. Powered by Mirobody”.
    Why it converts
The headline is a broad promise and does not name the task. The Timeline UI and the input tags hint at logging health data, but a visitor has to connect the dots. Experts advise that the first image say plainly what the app does.
  2. #2In search results

    Log your health effortlessly

    • log healthnot in name
    • symptomsnot in name
    What it shows
A voice recording sheet at 00:16 over the Timeline screen. The sub-line lists voice, photos, text or files for symptoms, meals and medications.
    Why it converts
Shows the main input action as it happens, and the sub-line names what can be logged. “Log” is a verb a visitor can picture doing.
  3. #3In search results

    AI analyzes meals and reports

    • mealnot in name
    • reportsnot in name
    What it shows
A day view with a memo holding a lunch photo, and a Diet entry with a text description of the meal and an estimated calorie, protein and carb range.
    Why it converts
Turns a photo into a result the visitor can see: a meal photo becomes a written entry. Meal tracking and report upload are separate needs, so this widens who the app speaks to.
  4. #4

    Your health, in every answer

    • health datanot in name
    What it shows
A “Chat with Theta” screen with a sleep answer, a line chart of recent sleep hours, and an input box that reads “Ask anything about your health…”.
    Why it converts
Shows the chat feature with real-looking content, including a chart inside the answer.
  5. #5

    Your data Kept private

    • hipaanot in name
    What it shows
An onboarding-style screen titled “Your health data is HIPAA-protected” with the HIPAA logo and three cards: Covered by HIPAA, Encrypted end to end, Never sold.
    Why it converts
Health apps ask for sensitive data, so a visitor may want reassurance before installing. The screen states the app's own claims in large type. A claim printed here is the app's statement, not something verified.
  6. #6

    Bring your health data together

    • wearablesnot in name
    • clinical recordsnot in name
    What it shows
App icons floating above a large “39,000+ EHR clinics and hospitals you can connect” stat, and a Data Sources list with Patient Portals, Apple Health and a Fitbit device.
    Why it converts
A specific number and real data sources show what the app can connect to. The large stat reads clearly, though it sits late in the set.

Icon and design system

What makes the page read as one brand at a glance.

120px
60px
40px
  • One simple white shape on a flat dark blue background, with no text.
  • The shape reads as a loop or letter, not as health, so the icon alone does not say what the app does.
  • The blue is the same family as the screenshot backgrounds, so icon and gallery look related.
  • The icon appears again in the footer of the first screenshot.
  1. 01

    Headline plus sub-line

A large white headline sits above a sub-line that explains it. The headline is broad, and the sub-line names the actual feature.

  2. 02

One blue background, cream app screens

Most images use the same blue field and a cream phone panel. The set reads as one story.

  3. 03

Sensitive-topic trust is shown on the images

One image prints a HIPAA badge and “Encrypted end to end”, and another prints a count of connectable clinics. Both are printed claims by the app.

  4. 04

    Features follow a data flow

The order goes from logging, to analysis, to chat answers, to privacy, to connecting sources. The first image carries the broadest promise instead of a concrete task.

  5. 05

Charts and real content inside the UI

The chat answer includes a sleep chart and the diet entry includes a meal photo. Real-looking content makes each feature easier to picture.

Where the points are

  1. Use the rest of the app name+20 pts

16 characters are free. Add the next most important search term.

  2. Ask happy users for a rating+16 pts

4.5 stars from 40 ratings. Apple's in-app rating prompt can be shown up to 3 times a year; show it right after a user finishes something in the app.

  3. Check caption terms against your subtitle and keywords

10 caption terms aren't in the app name: health, records, log health, symptoms, meal, reports, health data, hipaa, wearables, clinical records. Captions don't count for search; the subtitle and the 100-character keyword field do.

Apply it to your app

A checklist for your next product page update.

  • Say what the app does in plain words in the first image, not only a broad promise.
  • Pair a short headline with a sub-line that names the feature.
  • Keep one background color and one panel style across the set.
  • Show real-looking content in the UI, such as a chart or a photo, so the feature is easy to picture.
  • If your app handles sensitive data, show your privacy claims on an image and keep them accurate.
  • Use a specific number or named source instead of a vague claim.
How it works

How the ASO score works

  1. 01

    App name, 25 points

Up to 10 for how much of Apple's 30 characters it uses, 10 for a brand + keyword structure, 5 when keywords fill half the name or more.

  2. 02

    Screenshots, 35 points

Captions on every image, captions that name searched features, a first screenshot that shows the main use, one design system, readability at search size, and a trust signal.

  3. 03

    Ratings, 25 points

Up to 15 for the average (from 4.0, full marks at 4.8) and 10 for the count (from 1,000, full marks at 100,000 ratings).

  4. 04

    Freshness, 15 points

Full marks for an update in the last 30 days, falling to zero at 180 days. 85+ is excellent, 70+ strong, 50+ fair.

FAQ

Common questions

What is an ASO score?

A 100-point check of the parts of an App Store page you control: the app name, screenshots, ratings and how recently the app was updated. It's our own scoring rule, shown in full on this page, not a number from Apple. Use it to compare your page with apps that already sell well in your category.

How long can an app name be on the App Store?

30 characters. Apple also gives you a 30-character subtitle and a 100-character keyword field for more terms.

Which screenshots show up in App Store search results?

The first one to three, when the app has no preview video. That's why the first three should cover the main reasons people download. Theta Wellness uses them for health, log health and meal.

How many screenshots can an iPhone app have?

Up to 10 per device size. Apple recommends focusing each screenshot after the first on one main benefit or feature. Theta Wellness uses 8.

Where do the download and revenue numbers come from?

They're third-party estimates for the US App Store, not figures reported by the developer. Treat them as a sense of scale. Growth compares the latest month with the month before.

Do screenshot captions help an app rank in search?

Apple says search results use text matches in the app name, subtitle, keywords and primary category, plus user behavior such as downloads, ratings and reviews. Captions aren't on that list: they help people who already see the app decide to download. When a caption names something people search for, put that term in the keyword field too.
