Screenshots and why they convert

7 screenshots of up to 10, the first 6 shown here. The first 3 show in search results when there's no preview video.

  1. Screenshot 4: You are stronger together.
  2. Screenshot 5:
  3. Screenshot 6: Understand what's good for you and your health.
  1. #1In search results

    Your Team. Your Challenge.

    • challengenot in name
    What it shows
A home screen with a Community Challenge card (11 days left, ranking 4 / 3521), daily stats, a streak and a level. A cartoon meerkat in a headband gives a thumbs-up at the edge of the phone.
    Why it converts
Shows team competition and progress at once, which fits the app name. The two short lines say what the visitor gets. The mascot gives the set a face from the first image.
  2. #2In search results

Your Health Buddy supports you on your journey.

    • health buddynot in name
    What it shows
A Health Buddy chat screen with a Start chat button and four topics: Movement, Nutrition, Mind and Health. The mascot stands at the left edge.
    Why it converts
Introduces a second feature in the app's own term, Health Buddy. The four topic tiles are easy to scan, but the caption is a general line rather than a specific use.
  3. #3In search results

Diverse activities for you and your team.

    • activitiesnot in name
    What it shows
An Activity list with sections for bodyweight training, yoga and endurance, each with photo tiles such as Yoga Beginners and Yoga Advanced. A small workout card floats at the left.
    Why it converts
Shows the range of workouts in one view, so a visitor can tell whether their kind of training is covered. Photos make the list feel concrete.
  4. #4

    You are stronger together.

      What it shows
Two tilted phones. One shows a Community Activities feed with a post about a finished run and a group photo. The other shows workout tiles.
      Why it converts
Turns the team idea into something visible: people posting and seeing each other's activity. The caption is an emotional line, so the feed carries the meaning.
    • #5

        What it shows
A feed post with a group photo and a run result, a row of reaction icons, and the mascot checking a smartwatch. No caption text is printed on this image.
        Why it converts
With no caption, a visitor has to work out the point from the feed. A short line here would tie the reactions to the team idea.
      • #6

Understand what's good for you and your health.

        • healthnot in name
        What it shows
A Teamfit Age screen with an aging rate scale and influence factors for heart rate, active minutes, steps and sleep, each with a colored bar.
        Why it converts
Shows a personal result with a clear scale, which gives a reason to install beyond group challenges. The caption is general, so the feature name does not appear in the text.

      Icon and design system

What makes the page read as one brand at a glance.

      120px
      60px
      40px
      • One simple white shape on a flat blue field, with no text and no fine detail.
      • The blue matches the header bars and the logo mark used in every screenshot, so icon and gallery read as one brand.
      • The shape reads as a letter F, but it does not hint at fitness or teams on its own.
      1. 01

        Mascot as a recurring character

A cartoon meerkat in a headband appears on several images. It gives the app a friendly face and links the screens.

      2. 02

Bold navy captions on a light background

Large dark headlines sit on a pale field with the small logo mark above. They stay readable and keep a steady look.

      3. 03

        Tilted, cropped phones

Some phones are angled and cut off at the edges. It adds movement, but part of the screen is hidden.

      4. 04

        Team and community first

The first and fourth captions are about the group: "Your Team." and "stronger together". The feed with photos and reactions shows it.

      5. 05

        One caption missing

One image carries no printed text and relies on the feed and mascot. Captions give each image a clear single point.

      Where the points are

      1. Ask happy users for a rating+10 pts

4.8 stars from 257 ratings. Apple's in-app rating prompt can be shown up to 3 times a year; show it right after a user finishes something in the app.

      2. Use the rest of the app name+2 pts

5 characters are free. Add the next most important search term.

      3. Check caption terms against your subtitle and keywords

4 caption terms aren't in the app name: challenge, health buddy, activities, health. Captions don't count for search; the subtitle and the 100-character keyword field do.

      Apply it to your app

A checklist for your next product page update.

      • Put your main promise in screenshot 1 as a short two-line caption.
      • Show the feature that makes your app different, such as the team feed, early in the set.
      • Give every screenshot a caption so each image makes one point.
      • Name a feature in the caption when it is a term people use, and not only a general line.
      • Keep one caption style, one background and one logo position across all images.
      • If you tilt or crop the phone, keep the part that carries the message fully visible.

      FAQ

      Common questions

      What is an ASO score?

A 100-point check of the parts of an App Store page you control: the app name, screenshots, ratings and how recently the app was updated. It's our own scoring rule, shown in full on this page, not a number from Apple. Use it to compare your page with apps that already sell well in your category.

How long can an app name be on the App Store?

30 characters. A common pattern is a short brand followed by the main thing people search for, like “Teamfit - train as a team”, which uses 25. Apple also gives you a 30-character subtitle and a 100-character keyword field for more terms.

Which screenshots show up in App Store search results?

The first one to three, when the app has no preview video. That's why the first three should cover the main reasons people download. Teamfit uses them for challenge, health buddy and activities.

How many screenshots can an iPhone app have?

Up to 10 per device size. Apple recommends focusing each screenshot after the first on one main benefit or feature. Teamfit uses 7.

Where do the download and revenue numbers come from?

They're third-party estimates for the US App Store, not figures reported by the developer. Treat them as a sense of scale. Growth compares the latest month with the month before.

Do screenshot captions help an app rank in search?

Apple says search results use text matches in the app name, subtitle, keywords and primary category, plus user behavior such as downloads, ratings and reviews. Captions aren't on that list: they help people who already see the app decide to download. When a caption names something people search for, put that term in the keyword field too.
