Screenshots and why they convert
8 screenshots of up to 10, the first 6 shown here. The first 3 show in search results when there's no preview video.

#1In search results
Remember Everything You Learn from Podcasts
- podcastsnot in name
- What it shows
- A phone with a podcast playing and a “Create snip” button, under a five-star line (“Best app to learn from podcasts”), a “Loved by 300k+ people worldwide” laurel and “Featured in” press logos including Fast Company and Product Hunt.
- Why it converts
- Opens with the outcome, not the player, and the playing screen shows what the app does. The rating, user count and press logos sit in the first frame, where a new visitor decides whether to keep looking. They are the app's own claims.

#2In search results
Save Key Insights, Automatically
- insightsnot in name
- What it shows
- A tilted phone with an episode cover and a “Saved” card labelled “Insight”, with a short title and two bullet points.
- Why it converts
- Shows the result a listener keeps: a finished note. “Automatically” answers the effort objection. The card is the one thing on the image, so the idea is clear.

#3In search results
Chat with Episodes like ChatGPT
- chatnot in name
- What it shows
- Three phones fanned out, each with an “Ask episode” field, suggested questions and the keyboard open.
- Why it converts
- Ties a new feature to something visitors already know, so it needs no explanation.

#4
Know Before You Listen
- What it shows
- Two tilted phones: an episode page with a Play button, a guest line, a Summary block and Chapters, and a second phone with a “Your snips” list behind it.
- Why it converts
- Gives a reason to open the app before pressing play: decide whether an episode is worth the time. The sub-line names summaries, chapters and guests.

#5
All Your Podcasts in One Place
- podcastsnot in name
- What it shows
- A phone on the Home screen with an episode list, over a wall of podcast cover art. The sub-line reads “All podcasts + private RSS support”.
- Why it converts
- Handles the switching objection: it can hold the shows a listener already follows. The cover-art wall makes the catalog feel wide, and the sub-line names a specific feature.

#6
Export & Sync Your Insights
- exportnot in name
- syncnot in name
- What it shows
- Six note-app icons above an “Export & sync” settings screen listing Readwise and Notion integrations and export to Obsidian, Logseq, Bear and Markdown.
- Why it converts
- Names the tools people already use for notes, so a visitor can check at once whether the app fits their setup. It is a settings screen, but the large icons carry the message.
Icon and design system
What makes the page read as one brand at a glance.
- 01
Benefit headline plus one plain sub-line
Most images have a large white headline and a short line below it. The headline says what the listener gets, and the sub-line names the feature or detail.
- 02
Trust signals in the first frame
A rating line, a user-count laurel and press logos are all on screenshot 1. A first-time visitor sees them before any feature.
- 03
Dark background, teal glow
Most images use a dark background with a teal glow behind the phone. The set reads as one system and matches the icon.
- 04
Phones tilted and layered
Later images tilt or overlap phones. Image 3 fans out three phones and image 4 overlaps two.
- 05
Familiar references
“Like ChatGPT” and the row of note-app icons let visitors place the app against tools they already know, without a long explanation.

Where the points are
- Ask happy users for a rating+12 pts
4.7 stars from 1,155 ratings. Apple's in-app rating prompt can be shown up to 3 times a year; show it right after a user finishes something in the app.
- Use the rest of the app name+2 pts
5 characters are free. Add the next most important search term.
- Check caption terms against your subtitle and keywords
5 caption terms aren't in the app name: podcasts, insights, chat, export, sync. Captions don't count for search; the subtitle and the 100-character keyword field do.
Apply it to your app
A checklist for your next product page update.
- Put the outcome in the headline of screenshot 1, not the feature name.
- Show your real rating, user count or press mentions in the first image if you have them.
- Add one short sub-line under each headline to name the specific feature.
- Give every image one idea and one main visual.
- Keep the same background and type style across the set, and match the icon color.
- Name tools your audience already uses, such as integrations, to answer “will it fit my setup”.
How the ASO score works
- 01
App name, 25 points
Up to 10 for how much of Apple's 30 characters it uses, 10 for a brand + keyword structure, 5 when keywords fill half the name or more.
- 02
Screenshots, 35 points
Captions on every image, captions that name searched features, a first screenshot that shows the main use, one design system, readability at search size, and a trust signal.
- 03
Ratings, 25 points
Up to 15 for the average (from 4.0, full marks at 4.8) and 10 for the count (from 1,000, full marks at 100,000 ratings).
- 04
Freshness, 15 points
Full marks for an update in the last 30 days, falling to zero at 180 days. 85+ is excellent, 70+ strong, 50+ fair.
Common questions
What is an ASO score?
A 100-point check of the parts of an App Store page you control: the app name, screenshots, ratings and how recently the app was updated. It's our own scoring rule, shown in full on this page, not a number from Apple. Use it to compare your page with apps that already sell well in your category.
How long can an app name be on the App Store?
30 characters. A common pattern is a short brand followed by the main thing people search for, like “Snipd | AI Podcast Player”, which uses 25. Apple also gives you a 30-character subtitle and a 100-character keyword field for more terms.
Which screenshots show up in App Store search results?
The first one to three, when the app has no preview video. That's why the first three should cover the main reasons people download. Snipd uses them for podcasts, insights and chat.
How many screenshots can an iPhone app have?
Up to 10 per device size. Apple recommends focusing each screenshot after the first on one main benefit or feature. Snipd uses 8.
Where do the download and revenue numbers come from?
They're third-party estimates for the US App Store, not figures reported by the developer. Treat them as a sense of scale. Growth compares the latest month with the month before.
Do screenshot captions help an app rank in search?
Apple says search results use text matches in the app name, subtitle, keywords and primary category, plus user behavior such as downloads, ratings and reviews. Captions aren't on that list: they help people who already see the app decide to download. When a caption names something people search for, put that term in the keyword field too.
Where the numbers come from
- Apple: Creating your product page
- App name limit (30 characters), up to 10 screenshots, the first one to three shown in search results, keyword field.
- Apple: App Store search
- Search results use text relevance (name, subtitle, keywords, primary category) and user behavior (downloads, ratings, reviews).
- Apple: Ratings, reviews and responses
- The in-app rating prompt can be shown up to three times in a 365-day period.
- Snipd | AI Podcast Player on the App Store
