Screenshots and why they convert

7 screenshots of up to 10, the first 6 shown here. The first 3 show in search results when there's no preview video.

  1. Screenshot 4: Get Encouraged
  2. Screenshot 5: Strengthen Your Faith
  3. Screenshot 6: Never Miss Gods Word
  1. #1In search results

    Godly Di

    • disciplinenot in name
    What it shows
A phone tilted on an orange background with a 148-day counter, a streak tile and a share button. The headline “Godly Di” is cut at the right edge and continues on the next image.
    Why it converts
Shows a day count and a streak, so a visitor sees the app tracks a daily run. The headline is split across two images, so in search results this one reads as a half word.
  2. #2In search results

    scipline

    • disciplinenot in name
    What it shows
The second half of the tilted phone, now at day 149, with a trophy button, a tasks-done total and rank buttons. The headline ends with “scipline”.
    Why it converts
Finishes the panorama and rewards a swipe. Alone, it reads as a broken word, so the pair only works if the visitor scrolls.
  3. #3In search results

    Conquer Your Habits

    • habitsnot in name
    What it shows
A daily task list with every item checked, a full progress bar and an “All orders complete!” banner with confetti. Items include physical training, diet, Bible reading and prayer time.
    Why it converts
Shows what the app does: a checklist of daily habits. A finished state shows the payoff, and the large caption names the use.
  4. #4

    Get Encouraged

      What it shows
A feed of community posts from named members, each with a streak badge, a heart count and a comment count.
      Why it converts
Shows other people using the app, which answers “will I be alone in this?”.
    • #5

      Strengthen Your Faith

      • faithnot in name
      What it shows
A top-five leaderboard by days completed, a latest community post, a verse of the day and a daily prayer card. A line reads “Live · 600+ active members”.
      Why it converts
Shows daily content and a ranked list on one screen. The member count is a user-count signal inside the UI.
    • #6

      Never Miss Gods Word

      • gods wordnot in name
      What it shows
A Bible reader open to 1 Chronicles 24, with library and search tabs and the text labeled World English Bible (public domain).
      Why it converts
Names a feature people look for: reading scripture in the app. The named text source is a plain, specific detail.

    Icon and design system

What makes the page read as one brand at a glance.

    120px
    60px
    40px
    • One symbol, a flame, with no text. It fits the app name.
    • Black with orange glow matches the dark app screens and the orange backgrounds, so icon and gallery share colors.
    • The icon has an orange outline and speckle detail.
    1. 01

      Headline split across two images

The first two images form one wide scene and one headline. It rewards a swipe, but each image alone shows a partial word.

    2. 02

      Big white captions on orange

Most captions are two lines of large white type on the same orange gradient. It stays readable when the image is small.

    3. 03

Dark app screens on a bright background

The same dark theme appears in most screens, so the set looks like one system.

    4. 04

Streaks and counts as the hook

Day counts, a streak tile and a leaderboard show progress over time. The main idea is staying consistent, not a single feature.

    5. 05

      Community shown with real-looking posts

A post feed and a ranked list show that other people are using the app. A printed member count sits inside the UI.

    Where the points are

    1. Use the rest of the app name+21 pts

17 characters are free. Add the next most important search term.

    2. Ask happy users for a rating+12 pts

4.7 stars from 396 ratings. Apple's in-app rating prompt can be shown up to 3 times a year; show it right after a user finishes something in the app.

    3. Check caption terms against your subtitle and keywords

4 caption terms aren't in the app name: discipline, habits, faith, gods word. Captions don't count for search; the subtitle and the 100-character keyword field do.

    Apply it to your app

A checklist for your next product page update.

    • Make screenshot 1 readable on its own, even if later images continue the story.
    • If you split a headline across images, check that each half still makes sense in search results.
    • Show the main use early, such as the checklist, and not only a counter.
    • Keep captions to two short lines of large type with strong contrast.
    • Use one background and one UI theme in every image.
    • Put proof such as member counts in the caption or a badge.
    How it works

    How the ASO score works

    1. 01

      App name, 25 points

Up to 10 for how much of Apple's 30 characters it uses, 10 for a brand + keyword structure, 5 when keywords fill half the name or more.

    2. 02

      Screenshots, 35 points

Captions on every image, captions that name searched features, a first screenshot that shows the main use, one design system, readability at search size, and a trust signal.

    3. 03

      Ratings, 25 points

Up to 15 for the average (from 4.0, full marks at 4.8) and 10 for the count (from 1,000, full marks at 100,000 ratings).

    4. 04

      Freshness, 15 points

Full marks for an update in the last 30 days, falling to zero at 180 days. 85+ is excellent, 70+ strong, 50+ fair.

    FAQ

    Common questions

    What is an ASO score?

A 100-point check of the parts of an App Store page you control: the app name, screenshots, ratings and how recently the app was updated. It's our own scoring rule, shown in full on this page, not a number from Apple. Use it to compare your page with apps that already sell well in your category.

How long can an app name be on the App Store?

30 characters. Apple also gives you a 30-character subtitle and a 100-character keyword field for more terms.

Which screenshots show up in App Store search results?

The first one to three, when the app has no preview video. That's why the first three should cover the main reasons people download. Refiners Fire uses them for discipline, discipline and habits.

How many screenshots can an iPhone app have?

Up to 10 per device size. Apple recommends focusing each screenshot after the first on one main benefit or feature. Refiners Fire uses 7.

Where do the download and revenue numbers come from?

They're third-party estimates for the US App Store, not figures reported by the developer. Treat them as a sense of scale. Growth compares the latest month with the month before.

Do screenshot captions help an app rank in search?

Apple says search results use text matches in the app name, subtitle, keywords and primary category, plus user behavior such as downloads, ratings and reviews. Captions aren't on that list: they help people who already see the app decide to download. When a caption names something people search for, put that term in the keyword field too.
