    What it shows
A phone showing a story feed titled “Discover Readle”, with news cards and level filters. Six flag buttons sit below the caption: Spanish, French, German, English, Japanese, Chinese.
    Why it converts

2,000+ Story-Based Language Lessons A1 Beginner to C1 Mastery Level Up Now & Feel Confident

    • language lessonsnot in name
    What it shows
The same story feed with the A1 level selected and filter chips from A1 to C1. The caption prints “2,000+” lessons and the A1 to C1 range.
    Why it converts
Gives a concrete size (“2,000+”, the app's own claim) and a level range, so beginners and advanced learners can both see a fit. The level filter in the phone backs up the caption.

  5. #5

Create Your Audio Playlists Save Your Favorites & Listen on the Go

    • audio playlistsnot in name
    What it shows
A “Learned stories” list with level filters and a play control, plus story rows with thumbnails.

  6. #6

Grammar Bites Made Simple with Real Examples from Stories & Easy Explanations

    • grammarnot in name
    What it shows
The Grammar tab open on a story, with a card on the French verb “faire”: an example sentence, a description and a short conjugation table.
    Why it converts
Covers a common topic, grammar, and shows a real card instead of a list of features. The caption promises simple explanations and the card looks short and plain.

Icon and design system

What makes the page read as one brand at a glance.

120px
60px
40px
  • One symbol, an open book, points to reading, and the name is printed above it.
  • The text is large and the shape is simple, so it should stay readable at small sizes.
  • The teal-green background matches the screenshot backgrounds, so icon and gallery look like one brand.
  1. 01

    Headline plus a second line

Captions have a headline and a second line that adds detail. The headline carries the message and the second line lists the specifics.

  2. 02

A highlighted phrase in the captions

A key phrase is set in bold with a yellow underline or yellow text, such as “Daily Stories & News” and “Feel Confident”.

  3. 03

    Same frame across most images

Most images have text on the left, a phone on the right, a teal gradient behind, and the logo with language flags at the bottom left. The set looks like one system.

  4. 04

    Feature names in the captions

Captions name vocabulary, flashcards, conjugations, audio and grammar. A visitor can find their own need in the set.

  5. 05

Numbers as the app's own claims

“2,000+” lessons and “85%” word retention are printed as claims. There is no rating or award on the images, so the numbers carry the proof alone.

Where the points are

  1. Ask happy users for a rating+11 pts

4.7 stars from 1,524 ratings. Apple's in-app rating prompt can be shown up to 3 times a year; show it right after a user finishes something in the app.

  2. Check caption terms against your subtitle and keywords

7 caption terms aren't in the app name: daily stories, language lessons, vocabulary, dictionary, flashcards, audio playlists, grammar. Captions don't count for search; the subtitle and the 100-character keyword field do.

Apply it to your app

A checklist for your next product page update.

  • Say what the app is in the first image, and show the real screen next to it.
  • Use a large headline and keep the second line short.
  • Name the features in the captions, using the words your users use.
  • Show the options a visitor wants to check, such as languages or levels, as icons they can scan.
  • Keep one frame, one color family and one caption style across the set.
  • Add a rating, award or press mention if you have one, and place it early.
How it works

How the ASO score works

  1. 01

    App name, 25 points

Up to 10 for how much of Apple's 30 characters it uses, 10 for a brand + keyword structure, 5 when keywords fill half the name or more.

  2. 02

    Screenshots, 35 points

Captions on every image, captions that name searched features, a first screenshot that shows the main use, one design system, readability at search size, and a trust signal.

  3. 03

    Ratings, 25 points

Up to 15 for the average (from 4.0, full marks at 4.8) and 10 for the count (from 1,000, full marks at 100,000 ratings).

  4. 04

    Freshness, 15 points

Full marks for an update in the last 30 days, falling to zero at 180 days. 85+ is excellent, 70+ strong, 50+ fair.

FAQ

Common questions

What is an ASO score?

A 100-point check of the parts of an App Store page you control: the app name, screenshots, ratings and how recently the app was updated. It's our own scoring rule, shown in full on this page, not a number from Apple. Use it to compare your page with apps that already sell well in your category.

How long can an app name be on the App Store?

30 characters. A common pattern is a short brand followed by the main thing people search for, like “Readle: Learn Languages Daily”, which uses 29. Apple also gives you a 30-character subtitle and a 100-character keyword field for more terms.

Which screenshots show up in App Store search results?

The first one to three, when the app has no preview video. That's why the first three should cover the main reasons people download. Readle uses them for learn languages, language lessons and vocabulary.

How many screenshots can an iPhone app have?

Up to 10 per device size. Apple recommends focusing each screenshot after the first on one main benefit or feature. Readle uses 8.

Where do the download and revenue numbers come from?

They're third-party estimates for the US App Store, not figures reported by the developer. Treat them as a sense of scale. Growth compares the latest month with the month before.

Do screenshot captions help an app rank in search?

Apple says search results use text matches in the app name, subtitle, keywords and primary category, plus user behavior such as downloads, ratings and reviews. Captions aren't on that list: they help people who already see the app decide to download. When a caption names something people search for, put that term in the keyword field too.
