Screenshots and why they convert

6 screenshots of up to 10. The first 3 show in search results when there's no preview video.

  2. Screenshot 5: Get your horoscope • tarot • dreams
  3. Screenshot 6: Your opinion matters
  1. #1In search results

    Discover your path with millions

    • psychicin name
    • tarotnot in name
    What it shows
A crystal ball between two hands, a laurel badge reading “98% prediction accuracy”, the app name, the line “Connect with Top Psychics Today” and the words Psychic, Tarot, Astrology.
    Why it converts
The bottom text names the app and its topics, and the crystal ball fits the topic. But the big headline is a general slogan and no app screen is shown, so the first image reads like title art. The “98%” is the app's own printed claim.
  2. #2In search results

Start free chat get special offer

    • free chatnot in name
    What it shows
A chat between a user and an advisor about a relationship, with a pink “Start Free Chat” button above the phone.
    Why it converts
Shows the main use as a real conversation, so a visitor sees what happens after install. The caption leads with a free first step, which lowers the cost of trying.
  3. #3In search results

Find the right expert for your needs

    • astrologynot in name
    • tarotnot in name
    What it shows
A list of advisors with photos, star ratings, review counts, online status and “50% OFF” tags. Category tabs read All, Astrology, Tarot, Psychics, Medium.
    Why it converts
Shows the choice a visitor will face: pick a person, not a feature. Ratings and review counts sit on the cards.
  4. #4

    Schedule reading anytime

    • readingin name
    What it shows
A time-slot picker for today with a “NOW” option, a 10 minute session and a “Book Now” button with $19.90 crossed out and $9.90 shown.
    Why it converts
Answers “when can I talk to someone”, which is a common doubt for a live service. The price is shown on the image, so the visitor knows the cost before install.
  5. #5

Get your horoscope • tarot • dreams

    • horoscopenot in name
    • tarotnot in name
    What it shows
A home screen greeting “Hello, Amelia”, with a daily tarot card, a horoscope card, a dream interpretation box and an “Advisor of Day” photo.
    Why it converts
Adds self-serve content for people who do not want a paid chat yet. The caption names three things people look for. The home screen is crowded, so the small text is hard to read at thumbnail size.
  6. #6

    Your opinion matters

      What it shows
An advisor profile with a list of five-star reviews and short comments. One review card is enlarged past the phone frame.
      Why it converts
Reviews are social proof from other users, which matters when you pay a stranger. The caption is about the visitor's own opinion, so it does not say what the screen proves.

    Icon and design system

What makes the page read as one brand at a glance.

    120px
    60px
    40px
    • One symbol, a crystal ball held by two hands, signals the psychic topic.
    • No text, and a flat green background. The ball is the clear focus.
    • The green and white match the screenshot background colors, so icon and gallery look like one brand.
    • The thin hand outlines and small sparkles may be hard to see at the smallest sizes.
    1. 01

Bold white capitals on a dark gradient

Most captions are short, white and uppercase on a dark teal and blue background. It stays readable at search-result size.

    2. 02

Offers and prices on the image

“Start Free Chat”, “50% OFF” and a crossed-out $19.90 next to $9.90 put the deal in front of the visitor before install.

    3. 03

      People as the product

Advisor photos, ratings and review counts fill several screens. The app sells access to a person, so the person is shown.

    4. 04

Cards enlarged past the phone frame

A card or review is scaled up and overlaps the device edge. The key content stays legible when the image is small.

    5. 05

Proof placed late, claim placed first

The “98% prediction accuracy” badge is on image 1 as the app's own claim. User reviews appear on the last image.

    Where the points are

    1. Ask happy users for a rating+9 pts

4.7 stars from 4,078 ratings. Apple's in-app rating prompt can be shown up to 3 times a year; show it right after a user finishes something in the app.

    2. Check caption terms against your subtitle and keywords

4 caption terms aren't in the app name: tarot, free chat, astrology, horoscope. Captions don't count for search; the subtitle and the 100-character keyword field do.

    Apply it to your app

A checklist for your next product page update.

    • Put a real app screen in the first image, not only the logo and a slogan.
    • Use a headline that says what the user gets, not a general line like “discover your path”.
    • Show the price or the free first step on the image if it helps a visitor decide.
    • Enlarge one card or number past the phone frame so it reads at thumbnail size.
    • Show real ratings and reviews. Keep any printed claim something you can back up.
    • Keep the icon and the screenshot background in the same colors.
    How it works

    How the ASO score works

    1. 01

      App name, 25 points

Up to 10 for how much of Apple's 30 characters it uses, 10 for a brand + keyword structure, 5 when keywords fill half the name or more.

    2. 02

      Screenshots, 35 points

Captions on every image, captions that name searched features, a first screenshot that shows the main use, one design system, readability at search size, and a trust signal.

    3. 03

      Ratings, 25 points

Up to 15 for the average (from 4.0, full marks at 4.8) and 10 for the count (from 1,000, full marks at 100,000 ratings).

    4. 04

      Freshness, 15 points

Full marks for an update in the last 30 days, falling to zero at 180 days. 85+ is excellent, 70+ strong, 50+ fair.

    FAQ

    Common questions

    What is an ASO score?

A 100-point check of the parts of an App Store page you control: the app name, screenshots, ratings and how recently the app was updated. It's our own scoring rule, shown in full on this page, not a number from Apple. Use it to compare your page with apps that already sell well in your category.

How long can an app name be on the App Store?

30 characters. A common pattern is a short brand followed by the main thing people search for, like “PsychicBook - Psychic Reading”, which uses 29. Apple also gives you a 30-character subtitle and a 100-character keyword field for more terms.

Which screenshots show up in App Store search results?

The first one to three, when the app has no preview video. That's why the first three should cover the main reasons people download. PsychicBook uses them for psychic, free chat and astrology.

How many screenshots can an iPhone app have?

Up to 10 per device size. Apple recommends focusing each screenshot after the first on one main benefit or feature. PsychicBook uses 6.

Where do the download and revenue numbers come from?

They're third-party estimates for the US App Store, not figures reported by the developer. Treat them as a sense of scale. Growth compares the latest month with the month before.

Do screenshot captions help an app rank in search?

Apple says search results use text matches in the app name, subtitle, keywords and primary category, plus user behavior such as downloads, ratings and reviews. Captions aren't on that list: they help people who already see the app decide to download. When a caption names something people search for, put that term in the keyword field too.
