Screenshots and why they convert

9 screenshots of up to 10, the first 6 shown here. The first 3 show in search results when there's no preview video.

    The Best Poker Trainer Ever

    • poker trainerin name
    What it shows
Three gold laurel badges: “No.1” in App Store poker training for Japan, a 4.6 App Store rating, and “Trusted by 100K+ players”. A phone is cut off at the right edge.
    Why it converts
Puts the proof first and the app second. The badges are specific and are the app's own claims. The product itself is barely visible, so a visitor learns the category but not what using it looks like.
  2. #2In search results

      What it shows
A tilted phone showing a poker table in play: community cards, player seats, a pot of 550, and Fold, Call and Raise buttons.
      Why it converts
This is the first real look at the product in use. It has no caption, so a visitor has to guess what the app teaches from the table alone.

Play & Learn. Check your leaks

      • leaksnot in name
      What it shows
An Analysis screen with a play-style map labelled Tight-Aggressive, and a card below asking “Should that limp actually be a raise?”.
      Why it converts
Shows the feedback side of a training app: the player gets a read on their own style. The caption uses “leaks”, a word poker players use, which speaks to the target user.
    • #4

      Make better poker decisions

      • poker decisionsnot in name
      What it shows
The home screen with a 6-max Ring Game card (1,248 hands, 4.82 bb/100), a Play button, a daily mission, and an AI coach tile.
      Why it converts
States the benefit in plain words and shows where a session starts. The numbers make the app look like a place to track progress.
    • #5

Quick drills. 10 spots a day

      • drillsnot in name
      What it shows
A drill on a flop board asking “How strong is this hand?” with four answer choices from very strong to weak.
      Why it converts
Gives a small, concrete habit to picture. A multiple-choice drill shows how learning works in the app without text to read.
    • #6

Stuck on a spot? Ask Aria

        What it shows
An AI Coach panel for a K-Q hand, with a 97% recommended frequency bar, raise and call splits, and a short written reasoning.
        Why it converts
Turns the AI coach into a named helper for a clear moment of need. The caption is a question the visitor may be asking themselves.

      Icon and design system

What makes the page read as one brand at a glance.

      120px
      60px
      40px
      • One idea: a card with a Q, which hints at poker and at the “Q'z” name.
      • Black, red and white on a plain background, with one large shape that stays clear when small.
      • The icon is white, red and black, while the screenshots are dark navy with gold. The two do not share a color story.
      1. 01

        Proof before product

The first image is made of three badges: a store ranking claim, a rating and a player count. All three are the app's own claims, and the app UI is cut off at the edge.

      2. 02

Two-tone captions on a dark set

Most captions are large white text with one key phrase in gold, on a dark navy background. The set reads as one system and the text holds up when small.

      3. 03

        Phone cropped and tilted

Some images tilt or crop the phone so the table fills the frame. The others show it straight on with a card pulled out of the screen.

      4. 04

        Captions name a user goal

“Check your leaks”, “Make better poker decisions”, “Quick drills” and “Ask Aria” each describe what the player gets, not a menu or screen name.

      5. 05

        Feature tour after the proof

Analysis, home, drills and the AI coach follow in turn. Each image shows one feature and the screen it lives on.

      Where the points are

      1. Ask happy users for a rating+12 pts

4.7 stars from 31 ratings. Apple's in-app rating prompt can be shown up to 3 times a year; show it right after a user finishes something in the app.

      2. Check caption terms against your subtitle and keywords

3 caption terms aren't in the app name: leaks, poker decisions, drills. Captions don't count for search; the subtitle and the 100-character keyword field do.

      Apply it to your app

A checklist for your next product page update.

      • Show the app in use in the first image, and put proof beside it instead of in place of it.
      • Print rankings, ratings and user counts only when they are true and current.
      • Write each caption as a goal the visitor has, in words they use.
      • Give every image a caption, so the screen is never left to explain itself.
      • Pick one accent color for the key phrase and use it on every image.
      • Match the icon colors to the screenshot palette so the page feels like one brand.
      How it works

      How the ASO score works

      1. 01

        App name, 25 points

Up to 10 for how much of Apple's 30 characters it uses, 10 for a brand + keyword structure, 5 when keywords fill half the name or more.

      2. 02

        Screenshots, 35 points

Captions on every image, captions that name searched features, a first screenshot that shows the main use, one design system, readability at search size, and a trust signal.

      3. 03

        Ratings, 25 points

Up to 15 for the average (from 4.0, full marks at 4.8) and 10 for the count (from 1,000, full marks at 100,000 ratings).

      4. 04

        Freshness, 15 points

Full marks for an update in the last 30 days, falling to zero at 180 days. 85+ is excellent, 70+ strong, 50+ fair.

      FAQ

      Common questions

      What is an ASO score?

A 100-point check of the parts of an App Store page you control: the app name, screenshots, ratings and how recently the app was updated. It's our own scoring rule, shown in full on this page, not a number from Apple. Use it to compare your page with apps that already sell well in your category.

How long can an app name be on the App Store?

30 characters. A common pattern is a short brand followed by the main thing people search for, like “Poker Trainer GTO - POKER Q'z”, which uses 29. Apple also gives you a 30-character subtitle and a 100-character keyword field for more terms.

Which screenshots show up in App Store search results?

The first one to three, when the app has no preview video. That's why the first three should cover the main reasons people download. Poker Trainer GTO uses them for poker trainer and leaks.

How many screenshots can an iPhone app have?

Up to 10 per device size. Apple recommends focusing each screenshot after the first on one main benefit or feature. Poker Trainer GTO uses 9.

Where do the download and revenue numbers come from?

They're third-party estimates for the US App Store, not figures reported by the developer. Treat them as a sense of scale. Growth compares the latest month with the month before.

Do screenshot captions help an app rank in search?

Apple says search results use text matches in the app name, subtitle, keywords and primary category, plus user behavior such as downloads, ratings and reviews. Captions aren't on that list: they help people who already see the app decide to download. When a caption names something people search for, put that term in the keyword field too.
