  1. #1In search results

    Montessori-inspired educational toys.

    • montessoriin name
    What it shows
A phone turned sideways showing an illustrated town street, on a yellow background with wooden blocks. Three laurel badges at the bottom read Apple App Store Award, Apple Design Award 2021 and Academics' Choice Smart Media Award.
    Why it converts
Says what the app is in four words and names a phrase parents use. The award badges are the app's own claims, placed where they show in search results.
  2. #2In search results

A gentler app designed to NOT be addictive.

      What it shows
A sideways phone showing an illustrated kitchen with a figure at the sink, under paper bunting on an orange background.
      Why it converts
Speaks to a parent's worry about screen time instead of listing features. It is the app's own claim.
    • #3In search results

No internet required. Perfect for travel.

      • no internetnot in name
      What it shows
A sideways phone showing an illustrated house with a pond, on a blue background with wooden toys and a red toy car.
      Why it converts
Gives one practical reason to install: it works offline on trips.
    • #4

A calmer app means less tantrums.

        What it shows
A sideways phone showing a panel of dials, switches and a wave display, on a yellow background.
        Why it converts
States the benefit a parent wants, a calmer child, rather than naming the toy on screen. It is the app's own claim.
      • #5

        Exciting new toys added regularly!

          What it shows
A sideways phone showing a grid of illustrated people, a globe, a bike, a house and animals, on an orange background.
          Why it converts
Tells a visitor the content keeps growing. The mixed illustrations hint at the range of toys.
        • #6

Build STEM skills, Create art & music, Role play & tell stories

          • stemnot in name
          • artnot in name
          What it shows
A sideways phone showing a garden scene with a butterfly, a mushroom and a bee, on a blue background with a paper bee. Three bullet lines list skills.
          Why it converts
Lists three outcomes in one frame, so a parent can match the app to what they want for their child. It names STEM, a term parents use.

        Icon and design system

What makes the page read as one brand at a glance.

        120px
        60px
        40px
        • Flat toy shapes in bright primary colors say "toys for children" before the name is read.
        • The smiling square face gives the icon one focal point.
        • The colors match the yellow, orange and blue backgrounds of the screenshots, so icon and gallery look like one brand.
        • No text. Small shapes around the edge may blur at the smallest sizes.
        1. 01

          Benefit lines in plain words

Captions speak to parents: gentler, calmer, no internet. They name outcomes more than toys.

        2. 02

          One idea per image

Each screenshot makes one point: the concept, screen time, offline, calm, new content, skills.

        3. 03

          Cut-paper look

Paper bunting, wooden blocks and a paper bee sit around the phone. The style fits the Montessori toy theme.

        4. 04

          Color blocks that repeat

Yellow, orange and blue backgrounds alternate. Text is large, in a rounded font.

        5. 05

          Sideways phone, cropped

The device is turned and cut at the edge, so the illustration fills the frame. Little interface is shown, so there is little small text.

        Where the points are

        1. Ask happy users for a rating+5 pts

4.7 stars from 25,625 ratings. Apple's in-app rating prompt can be shown up to 3 times a year; show it right after a user finishes something in the app.

        2. Check caption terms against your subtitle and keywords

3 caption terms aren't in the app name: no internet, stem, art. Captions don't count for search; the subtitle and the 100-character keyword field do.

        Apply it to your app

A checklist for your next product page update.

        • Say what the app is in the first caption, in words your visitor uses.
        • Put awards or press you really hold on the first image, where search results show it.
        • Write captions about what the parent or user gets, not about screens.
        • Give each screenshot one message.
        • Repeat one set of background colors and one caption style across the set.
        • Match the icon palette to the screenshot palette.

        FAQ

        Common questions

        What is an ASO score?

A 100-point check of the parts of an App Store page you control: the app name, screenshots, ratings and how recently the app was updated. It's our own scoring rule, shown in full on this page, not a number from Apple. Use it to compare your page with apps that already sell well in your category.

How long can an app name be on the App Store?

30 characters. A common pattern is a short brand followed by the main thing people search for, like “Pok Pok | Montessori Preschool”, which uses 30. Apple also gives you a 30-character subtitle and a 100-character keyword field for more terms.

Which screenshots show up in App Store search results?

The first one to three, when the app has no preview video. That's why the first three should cover the main reasons people download. Pok Pok uses them for montessori and no internet.

How many screenshots can an iPhone app have?

Up to 10 per device size. Apple recommends focusing each screenshot after the first on one main benefit or feature. Pok Pok uses 9.

Where do the download and revenue numbers come from?

They're third-party estimates for the US App Store, not figures reported by the developer. Treat them as a sense of scale. Growth compares the latest month with the month before.

Do screenshot captions help an app rank in search?

Apple says search results use text matches in the app name, subtitle, keywords and primary category, plus user behavior such as downloads, ratings and reviews. Captions aren't on that list: they help people who already see the app decide to download. When a caption names something people search for, put that term in the keyword field too.
