Screenshots and why they convert
7 screenshots of up to 10, the first 6 shown here. The first 3 show in search results when there's no preview video.

#1In search results
Video Cloud AI, the smarts behind the new Scout Smart Camera
- video cloudnot in name
- What it shows
- A live camera feed of a cat inside a litter box, on a Luma Smart Litter Box screen with Air Purify, Clean, Level and Empty buttons.
- Why it converts
- Opens with a real product screen and a named feature, but the caption talks about the technology and a new camera, not what a pet owner gets. The visitor has to work out the benefit.

#2In search results
Save mealtime moments securely with video cloud
- video cloudnot in name
- What it shows
- A video playback screen with Cloud and SD Card tabs, a cat eating from a bowl, and a timeline of clips for one day.
- Why it converts
- Names a concrete use: saving and replaying mealtime clips. “Securely” is the app's own wording; the image does not show how.

#3In search results
Remotely feed and monitor meals with instant replay
- feednot in name
- monitor mealsnot in name
- What it shows
- Two photos: a person holding a phone that shows a cat at a bowl, and a cat sitting beside a white feeder.
- Why it converts
- Shows the result in real life instead of app screens. It pairs a photo of the owner watching with the pet at the feeder, which makes the remote-feeding use easy to picture.

#4
Keep track of your pet's water intake
- water intakenot in name
- What it shows
- A daily water card (60 ml of a 150 ml goal, 3 visits, 5'18'') and a history chart, with a white water fountain at the top right.
- Why it converts
- Names one clear task a pet owner may want to track. The goal ring and the product photo show the data and the device together.

#5
Schedule daily meals or snacks with ease
- schedule mealsnot in name
- What it shows
- A schedule form with the Feeding Time row (15:00) highlighted in a tan outline, plus feeding amount, repeat days and a white feeder.
- Why it converts
- The highlighted row marks the setting the caption is about.

#6
Conveniently portion and remotely serve wet food
- wet foodnot in name
- What it shows
- A meal schedule with three timed meals, such as Pork meal and Salmon meal, a count of feeder visits and eating time, and a black feeder with food in it.
- Why it converts
- Calls out wet food, a narrower need than dry-food feeding. A visitor who wants that finds it here, but only after several other screens.
Icon and design system
What makes the page read as one brand at a glance.
- 01
One caption style on most images
Most images have a small green line icon, then a centered black caption of two or three lines, on a cream background. The gallery reads as one set.
- 02
A different device in most screenshots
Several screens come with a product photo: a water fountain, a dry-food feeder, a wet-food feeder. The app is shown as the control for a physical product line.
- 03
A tan outline marks the key row
On the schedule screen, one row (Feeding Time) sits in a tan highlighted box.
- 04
Real photos next to app screens
One image uses two photos of a person and a cat, not a phone screen. It shows the outcome of remote feeding.
- 05
Captions name tasks, not the app
Water intake, meal schedules, wet food and video replay each get a line. The first image talks about a camera technology instead, which makes the first message less clear.

Where the points are
- Use the rest of the app name+22 pts
22 characters are free. Add the next most important search term.
- Ask happy users for a rating+11 pts
4.5 stars from 7,438 ratings. Apple's in-app rating prompt can be shown up to 3 times a year; show it right after a user finishes something in the app.
- Check caption terms against your subtitle and keywords
6 caption terms aren't in the app name: video cloud, feed, monitor meals, water intake, schedule meals, wet food. Captions don't count for search; the subtitle and the 100-character keyword field do.
Apply it to your app
A checklist for your next product page update.
- Put the clearest everyday use in screenshot 1, in words your visitor would use.
- Describe what the user gets, not the technology behind it.
- Keep one icon, one caption style and one background across the set.
- Highlight the one row or number the caption is about, and soften the rest.
- Show real photos when a screen alone cannot show the result.
- Make the icon say what the app does, not only its name.
How the ASO score works
- 01
App name, 25 points
Up to 10 for how much of Apple's 30 characters it uses, 10 for a brand + keyword structure, 5 when keywords fill half the name or more.
- 02
Screenshots, 35 points
Captions on every image, captions that name searched features, a first screenshot that shows the main use, one design system, readability at search size, and a trust signal.
- 03
Ratings, 25 points
Up to 15 for the average (from 4.0, full marks at 4.8) and 10 for the count (from 1,000, full marks at 100,000 ratings).
- 04
Freshness, 15 points
Full marks for an update in the last 30 days, falling to zero at 180 days. 85+ is excellent, 70+ strong, 50+ fair.
Common questions
What is an ASO score?
A 100-point check of the parts of an App Store page you control: the app name, screenshots, ratings and how recently the app was updated. It's our own scoring rule, shown in full on this page, not a number from Apple. Use it to compare your page with apps that already sell well in your category.
How long can an app name be on the App Store?
30 characters. Apple also gives you a 30-character subtitle and a 100-character keyword field for more terms.
Which screenshots show up in App Store search results?
The first one to three, when the app has no preview video. That's why the first three should cover the main reasons people download. Petlibro uses them for video cloud, video cloud and feed.
How many screenshots can an iPhone app have?
Up to 10 per device size. Apple recommends focusing each screenshot after the first on one main benefit or feature. Petlibro uses 7.
Where do the download and revenue numbers come from?
They're third-party estimates for the US App Store, not figures reported by the developer. Treat them as a sense of scale. Growth compares the latest month with the month before.
Do screenshot captions help an app rank in search?
Apple says search results use text matches in the app name, subtitle, keywords and primary category, plus user behavior such as downloads, ratings and reviews. Captions aren't on that list: they help people who already see the app decide to download. When a caption names something people search for, put that term in the keyword field too.
Where the numbers come from
- Apple: Creating your product page
- App name limit (30 characters), up to 10 screenshots, the first one to three shown in search results, keyword field.
- Apple: App Store search
- Search results use text relevance (name, subtitle, keywords, primary category) and user behavior (downloads, ratings, reviews).
- Apple: Ratings, reviews and responses
- The in-app rating prompt can be shown up to three times in a 365-day period.
- Petlibro on the App Store
- Name, developer, category, icon, screenshots, rating, release and update dates (US storefront), checked Nov 4, 2026.
- Downloads and revenue
- Third-party est. for the US App Store, latest month, pulled Oct 29, 2026. Not reported by the developer.
