Screenshots and why they convert

7 screenshots of up to 10, the first 6 shown here. The first 3 show in search results when there's no preview video.

  1. Screenshot 4: Verified Profiles
  2. Screenshot 5: Get comfortable, virtually
  3. Screenshot 6: Meet someone special
  1. #1In search results

    neetho

      What it shows
A profile card with a name, age, “Verified” tag, job, university, a smiling portrait and a voice prompt, under the neetho logo.
      Why it converts
Shows the product as a real profile, so a visitor sees what browsing looks like. The first caption is the brand name, not a benefit, so the screen does not say what the app is for.
    • #2In search results

Talk about what Telugus love to talk about

        What it shows
Prompt cards with a question and typed answer, a voice-note prompt, and a chat bubble reply.
        Why it converts
Names the audience in the caption and shows the prompts that start a conversation. The caption is a long, three-line sentence.
      • #3In search results

Search for your kind of person

        • searchnot in name
        What it shows
A “Select” list with a line about over 10000+ handpicked members and a large portrait card, plus a search button with a badge.
        Why it converts
Says the app lets you filter, which answers a common question about dating apps. The member count is a printed claim from the app.
      • #4

        Verified Profiles

        • verified profilesnot in name
        What it shows
A heading and a four-line paragraph about taking a selfie to get a blue tick, above a profile with a “Verified” badge.
        Why it converts
Names a trust feature people care about on dating apps. The small paragraph is hard to read at search-result size.
      • #5

        Get comfortable, virtually

        • video callnot in name
        What it shows
A full-screen video call with a smiling woman, a timer and call controls.
        Why it converts
Shows a video call as a step before meeting in person. The caption does not use the words “video call”.
      • #6

        Meet someone special

          What it shows
A chat with mixed English and Telugu messages in purple and gray bubbles.
          Why it converts
Ends on the chat itself, which shows the language people use. The caption is a general phrase that fits any dating app.

        Icon and design system

What makes the page read as one brand at a glance.

        120px
        60px
        40px
        • One black letterform and one purple heart. It is a single idea and has no extra detail.
        • The purple heart matches the purple used in every screenshot, so icon and gallery look like one brand.
        • The letter shape is not a common dating symbol, so the icon alone may not say what the app does. The name and subtitle have to do that.
        1. 01

          Brand name first

The first image carries the logo and a profile with no benefit caption. The idea comes later, in the second image.

        2. 02

          Audience in the caption

“Talk about what Telugus love to talk about” names who the app is for. Visitors in that group can see it is meant for them.

        3. 03

          Real faces and local language

Profile cards list place and religion, and the chat mixes English and Telugu. The screens look like the community they target.

        4. 04

          Verification explained

One image is given to the blue tick and how to get it. The app states it matches a selfie with profile photos.

        5. 05

          Same purple frame

White phone card, purple curve and bold black captions repeat. Caption length varies from two words to a paragraph.

        Where the points are

        1. Ask happy users for a rating+17 pts

4.4 stars from 1,435 ratings. Apple's in-app rating prompt can be shown up to 3 times a year; show it right after a user finishes something in the app.

        2. Check caption terms against your subtitle and keywords

3 caption terms aren't in the app name: search, verified profiles, video call. Captions don't count for search; the subtitle and the 100-character keyword field do.

        Apply it to your app

A checklist for your next product page update.

        • Say what the app does in the first caption, not only the logo.
        • Name your audience in a caption if the app is for a specific group.
        • Keep captions to one short line. Long paragraphs are hard to read at thumbnail size.
        • Give trust features their own image, and keep the explanation short.
        • Show the real language and content users will see on the screen.
        • Use the words your users use in captions, such as “video call”.
        How it works

        How the ASO score works

        1. 01

          App name, 25 points

Up to 10 for how much of Apple's 30 characters it uses, 10 for a brand + keyword structure, 5 when keywords fill half the name or more.

        2. 02

          Screenshots, 35 points

Captions on every image, captions that name searched features, a first screenshot that shows the main use, one design system, readability at search size, and a trust signal.

        3. 03

          Ratings, 25 points

Up to 15 for the average (from 4.0, full marks at 4.8) and 10 for the count (from 1,000, full marks at 100,000 ratings).

        4. 04

          Freshness, 15 points

Full marks for an update in the last 30 days, falling to zero at 180 days. 85+ is excellent, 70+ strong, 50+ fair.

        FAQ

        Common questions

        What is an ASO score?

A 100-point check of the parts of an App Store page you control: the app name, screenshots, ratings and how recently the app was updated. It's our own scoring rule, shown in full on this page, not a number from Apple. Use it to compare your page with apps that already sell well in your category.

How long can an app name be on the App Store?

30 characters. A common pattern is a short brand followed by the main thing people search for, like “Neetho - Date The Telugu Way”, which uses 28. Apple also gives you a 30-character subtitle and a 100-character keyword field for more terms.

Which screenshots show up in App Store search results?

The first one to three, when the app has no preview video. That's why the first three should cover the main reasons people download. Neetho uses them for search.

How many screenshots can an iPhone app have?

Up to 10 per device size. Apple recommends focusing each screenshot after the first on one main benefit or feature. Neetho uses 7.

Where do the download and revenue numbers come from?

They're third-party estimates for the US App Store, not figures reported by the developer. Treat them as a sense of scale. Growth compares the latest month with the month before.

Do screenshot captions help an app rank in search?

Apple says search results use text matches in the app name, subtitle, keywords and primary category, plus user behavior such as downloads, ratings and reviews. Captions aren't on that list: they help people who already see the app decide to download. When a caption names something people search for, put that term in the keyword field too.
