Screenshots and why they convert

10 screenshots of up to 10, the first 6 shown here. The first 3 show in search results when there's no preview video.

  1. Screenshot 4: relight effects
  2. Screenshot 5: generate and edit with nano banana, seedance, kling
  3. Screenshot 6: viral video effects
  1. #1In search results

AI PHOTO & VIDEO EDITOR 1.000.000+ USERS

    • ai photoin name
    • video editornot in name
    What it shows
A full-bleed photo of a person lying on a rug holding a remote, with the MIU logo, “AI PHOTO & VIDEO EDITOR”, five stars and “1.000.000+ USERS”.
    Why it converts
Puts the app name, five stars and a user count up front. No app screen is shown yet, so the first image sells the look and the claim, not the use.
  2. #2In search results

    create trending carousels

    • carouselsnot in name
    What it shows
A phone showing a social post with a street photo, a music-player card and a camera-screen overlay, under the app's credit balance and logo.
    Why it converts
Names a concrete thing to make, a carousel post. The busy collage shows the style of output a visitor would want.
  3. #3In search results

    discover new styles

    • stylesnot in name
    What it shows
A phone showing the template home: a featured video card “HOTEL LOBBY”, category tabs, style circles and a “Creative Studio” card with tool chips.
    Why it converts
Shows that there is a library to browse. The screen holds a lot of text, so the caption carries the message and the UI is context.
  4. #4

    relight effects

    • relightnot in name
    What it shows
Three rows of photos with effect cards on the left, two with a before/after slider.
    Why it converts
Before and after pairs show the result without needing words. “Relight” is a specific feature name, not a general slogan.
  5. #5

generate and edit with nano banana, seedance, kling

    • nano banananot in name
    • seedancenot in name
    What it shows
A phone on an image-generation screen with a portrait result, a text prompt, and a model picker set to “Nano Banana Pro”.
    Why it converts
Names the AI models inside the app, which people may look for by name. The prompt next to the result shows how the output is made.
  6. #6

    viral video effects

    • video effectsnot in name
    What it shows
A phone showing a Before and After pair of the same photo, a row of effect tiles (VHS, CRT, Grain, Scratches, Leaks, Film Frame) and a Generate button.
    Why it converts
A clear before and after with named effects and one action button. It answers what happens when a visitor taps Generate.

Icon and design system

What makes the page read as one brand at a glance.

120px
60px
40px
  • The name is the main shape, so the icon reads as a brand, not as a photo or video tool.
  • Pink on black matches the caption color and dark background in the screenshots, so icon and gallery look like one set.
  • The gold leaves and the small “Ai” mark are fine details that may blur at the smallest sizes.
  1. 01

    Result before process

Most images lead with output: a carousel, a relit portrait, a before and after. The UI around it is secondary.

  2. 02

    Short pink captions on black

Most captions are lowercase pink type at the top of a black frame. It stays readable at small size and ties the set together.

  3. 03

    Feature names as captions

“Relight effects”, “viral video effects” and the named AI models are specific. They name things a visitor may already look for.

  4. 04

    Count and stars up front

The first image prints five stars and “1.000.000+ USERS”. The count is the app's own claim.

  5. 05

    A different opener

Image 1 is a full photo with the logo, while the rest use phone frames or side-by-side results.

Where the points are

  1. Ask happy users for a rating+17 pts

4.4 stars from 828 ratings. Apple's in-app rating prompt can be shown up to 3 times a year; show it right after a user finishes something in the app.

  2. Check caption terms against your subtitle and keywords

7 caption terms aren't in the app name: video editor, carousels, styles, relight, nano banana, seedance, video effects. Captions don't count for search; the subtitle and the 100-character keyword field do.

Apply it to your app

A checklist for your next product page update.

  • Show what the app does in the first image, not only what it is.
  • Print a user count or rating where visitors see it first, and only if it is true.
  • Use before and after pairs when your app changes a photo or video.
  • Name features and tools in captions with the words people use.
  • Keep one caption style and one background color across the set.
  • Keep screens simple, or let the caption do the work when the UI is busy.
How it works

How the ASO score works

  1. 01

    App name, 25 points

Up to 10 for how much of Apple's 30 characters it uses, 10 for a brand + keyword structure, 5 when keywords fill half the name or more.

  2. 02

    Screenshots, 35 points

Captions on every image, captions that name searched features, a first screenshot that shows the main use, one design system, readability at search size, and a trust signal.

  3. 03

    Ratings, 25 points

Up to 15 for the average (from 4.0, full marks at 4.8) and 10 for the count (from 1,000, full marks at 100,000 ratings).

  4. 04

    Freshness, 15 points

Full marks for an update in the last 30 days, falling to zero at 180 days. 85+ is excellent, 70+ strong, 50+ fair.

FAQ

Common questions

What is an ASO score?

A 100-point check of the parts of an App Store page you control: the app name, screenshots, ratings and how recently the app was updated. It's our own scoring rule, shown in full on this page, not a number from Apple. Use it to compare your page with apps that already sell well in your category.

How long can an app name be on the App Store?

30 characters. A common pattern is a short brand followed by the main thing people search for, like “Miu Ai: Photo Video Generator”, which uses 29. Apple also gives you a 30-character subtitle and a 100-character keyword field for more terms.

Which screenshots show up in App Store search results?

The first one to three, when the app has no preview video. That's why the first three should cover the main reasons people download. Miu Ai uses them for ai photo, carousels and styles.

How many screenshots can an iPhone app have?

Up to 10 per device size. Apple recommends focusing each screenshot after the first on one main benefit or feature. Miu Ai uses 10.

Where do the download and revenue numbers come from?

They're third-party estimates for the US App Store, not figures reported by the developer. Treat them as a sense of scale. Growth compares the latest month with the month before.

Do screenshot captions help an app rank in search?

Apple says search results use text matches in the app name, subtitle, keywords and primary category, plus user behavior such as downloads, ratings and reviews. Captions aren't on that list: they help people who already see the app decide to download. When a caption names something people search for, put that term in the keyword field too.
