Screenshots and why they convert

9 screenshots of up to 10, the first 6 shown here. The first 3 show in search results when there's no preview video.

  1. Screenshot 4: Will I get married in 2027?
  2. Screenshot 5: Plan your year with personalised Vedic reports
  3. Screenshot 6: Wake up to clarity every day
  1. #1In search results

    World’s most trusted astrology app

    • astrologyin name
    What it shows
A Shark Tank India Season 3 logo, a 4.7 star rating, “4 Million+ Trusted by Seekers”, and a photo of three people in a TV studio.
    Why it converts
Opens with trust, not with the product. The ratings and TV badge are the app’s own claims, and the screen never shows what the app does. Visitors who want to see use first have to swipe.
  2. #2In search results

First Question is on us! Ask in any language.

    • any languagenot in name
    What it shows
A chat with the assistant Vaani. One question about marriage is asked in English and then in several Indian scripts.
    Why it converts
Names a free first question, which lowers the cost of trying. The mix of scripts shows language range without a feature list.
  3. #3In search results

4+ million users across 190+ countries

      What it shows
A world map with profile pins, above a phone showing a daily horoscope card, an ask box and a Purnima Today note.
      Why it converts
A second user-count claim, and it repeats the first image’s message.
    • #4

Will I get married in 2027?

      • marriednot in name
      What it shows
A phone with a chat. The question “Will I get married in 2027?” gets a written answer with a dasha period and a “Most promising window”.
      Why it converts
The caption is a question a user would type, so a visitor sees their own need. The answer card shows what a reply looks like.
    • #5

Plan your year with personalised Vedic reports

      • vedic reportsnot in name
      What it shows
A grid of report types such as Marriage, Career and Love Style, enlarged over a phone. Most tiles show lock icons, and a “Buy More Reports” button is visible.
      Why it converts
Shows a range of report topics in one frame. The lock icons and buy button hint that reports are paid, which sets expectations.
    • #6

Wake up to clarity every day

      • daily horoscopenot in name
      What it shows
A Daily Horoscope card with a week row, a 78% Clarity ring, “Wear Orange” and “Manifest 12”, enlarged over the home screen.
      Why it converts
Sells a daily habit, not a one-time answer. The enlarged card keeps the key numbers readable at a small size.

    Icon and design system

What makes the page read as one brand at a glance.

    120px
    60px
    40px
    • One symbol, a stylized eye with rays, on a flat plum background. It reads as mystical, but it does not say “astrology” by itself.
    • The plum color matches the dark purple tones in the screenshots, so icon and gallery look like one brand.
    • No text. The white shape has strong contrast, so it should hold up at small sizes, though the fine rays may blur.
    1. 01

      Trust claims first

The first and third images lead with a rating, a TV badge and user counts. The product itself appears from the second image on.

    2. 02

      Captions as user questions

“Will I get married in 2027?” is the question a user would type. A real question makes the use case concrete.

    3. 03

Serif captions with one tinted phrase

Large serif text at the top of most images, with a pink phrase for emphasis. It stays readable at small sizes.

    4. 04

      Cards enlarged past the phone

The report grid and the horoscope card are scaled up beyond the device frame. The key content stays legible in search results.

    5. 05

      One dark system

Dark gradient, star and hand motifs, and the same phone layout repeat. Swiping feels like one story.

    Where the points are

    1. Ask happy users for a rating+12 pts

4.7 stars from 722 ratings. Apple's in-app rating prompt can be shown up to 3 times a year; show it right after a user finishes something in the app.

    2. Check caption terms against your subtitle and keywords

4 caption terms aren't in the app name: any language, married, vedic reports, daily horoscope. Captions don't count for search; the subtitle and the 100-character keyword field do.

    Apply it to your app

A checklist for your next product page update.

    • Show what the app does in the first image. Put trust badges next to it, not instead of it.
    • Use a trust claim only if it is real and relevant to the visitor’s decision.
    • Write a caption as the question or need your user already has.
    • Enlarge the key card or number so it reads at thumbnail size.
    • Do not repeat the same claim in two images. Give each image one job.
    • Tell visitors early if part of the app is paid or locked.
    How it works

    How the ASO score works

    1. 01

      App name, 25 points

Up to 10 for how much of Apple's 30 characters it uses, 10 for a brand + keyword structure, 5 when keywords fill half the name or more.

    2. 02

      Screenshots, 35 points

Captions on every image, captions that name searched features, a first screenshot that shows the main use, one design system, readability at search size, and a trust signal.

    3. 03

      Ratings, 25 points

Up to 15 for the average (from 4.0, full marks at 4.8) and 10 for the count (from 1,000, full marks at 100,000 ratings).

    4. 04

      Freshness, 15 points

Full marks for an update in the last 30 days, falling to zero at 180 days. 85+ is excellent, 70+ strong, 50+ fair.

    FAQ

    Common questions

    What is an ASO score?

A 100-point check of the parts of an App Store page you control: the app name, screenshots, ratings and how recently the app was updated. It's our own scoring rule, shown in full on this page, not a number from Apple. Use it to compare your page with apps that already sell well in your category.

How long can an app name be on the App Store?

30 characters. A common pattern is a short brand followed by the main thing people search for, like “Melooha: AI Astrology & Kundli”, which uses 30. Apple also gives you a 30-character subtitle and a 100-character keyword field for more terms.

Which screenshots show up in App Store search results?

The first one to three, when the app has no preview video. That's why the first three should cover the main reasons people download. Melooha uses them for astrology and any language.

How many screenshots can an iPhone app have?

Up to 10 per device size. Apple recommends focusing each screenshot after the first on one main benefit or feature. Melooha uses 9.

Where do the download and revenue numbers come from?

They're third-party estimates for the US App Store, not figures reported by the developer. Treat them as a sense of scale. Growth compares the latest month with the month before.

Do screenshot captions help an app rank in search?

Apple says search results use text matches in the app name, subtitle, keywords and primary category, plus user behavior such as downloads, ratings and reviews. Captions aren't on that list: they help people who already see the app decide to download. When a caption names something people search for, put that term in the keyword field too.
