Screenshots and why they convert

5 screenshots of up to 10. The first 3 show in search results when there's no preview video.

Less Lag, More Victories Experience Silky Smooth Mobile Gaming

    • lagin name
    • mobile gamingnot in name
    What it shows
A launch screen with the LagoFast logo, a rocket and two game badges, under a headline about less lag.
    Why it converts
The headline uses plain words about lag, and a visitor who wants less lag sees that word first. The phone shows a logo screen rather than the app in use, so how it works is left for the next images.
  2. #2In search results

Worldwide Servers LagoFast covers smart game routes and stable game servers from 60+ countries and 150+ cities

    • game serversnot in name
    What it shows
A dotted world map with route lines between city names, above a server list for PUBG Mobile (Middle East, Frankfurt, Virginia, California, Sao Paulo).
    Why it converts
Shows where the servers are and what picking one looks like. The “60+ countries and 150+ cities” line is the app's own claim, and the long second line is small at thumbnail size.
  3. #3In search results

Multipath Connection World-leading Technology Ensures Optimal Stability and Low-Ping Game Routing

    • low pingnot in name
    • game routingnot in name
    What it shows
A network speed test screen for PUBG Mobile with a “Before 173ms” tag and an “After 20ms” tag in large type.
    Why it converts
A before and after number gives a visitor one concrete thing to look at. The numbers are the app's own example, and “World-leading” is a printed claim with no source.
  4. #4

Ready, Set, Play One Click Elevates Your Gaming to the Next Level

    • one clicknot in name
    What it shows
A PUBG Mobile game card with ping 20 and packet loss 0, and a hand tapping a large Start Game button.
    Why it converts
Shows that starting takes one tap. The caption is a slogan, so the “one click” idea carries more than “Next Level” does.
  5. #5

A Library of Extensive Games Support for Worldwide Popular Mobile Games

    • mobile gamesnot in name
    What it shows
A game library list with Boost buttons, and floating icons for Call of Duty, Free Fire, PUBG and FIFA.
    Why it converts
Answers “does it work with my game” with recognizable game icons. The floating icons cover part of the list, so the list itself is hard to read.

Icon and design system

What makes the page read as one brand at a glance.

120px
60px
40px
  • Blue bars and one green bar form a simple shape that reads as a logo, but it does not say “game” or “lag” by itself.
  • The small phone outline in the corner is fine detail that may be hard to see at the smallest sizes.
  • No text, so it stays clean. The blue matches the blue background in every screenshot.
  1. 01

    Big headline, a line below

Most images have a large white headline with a line below it. One or two words in the subline are yellow.

  2. 02

    Mostly one idea per image

Less lag, server map, before and after ping, one-tap start, game library. Most images sell one thing.

  3. 03

    Mostly the same blue look

A blue gradient with a dark phone frame is repeated across the set. It reads as one story and matches the icon color.

  4. 04

    Real game names on screen

PUBG Mobile appears in three images and the library shows other known game icons. A visitor can check their own game fast.

  5. 05

    Numbers as proof

The map line gives country and city counts, and the speed test gives 173ms and 20ms. These are the app's own claims, not outside ratings.

Where the points are

  1. Ask happy users for a rating+25 pts

4.0 stars from 574 ratings. Apple's in-app rating prompt can be shown up to 3 times a year; show it right after a user finishes something in the app.

  2. Check caption terms against your subtitle and keywords

6 caption terms aren't in the app name: mobile gaming, game servers, low ping, game routing, one click, mobile games. Captions don't count for search; the subtitle and the 100-character keyword field do.

  3. Win back installs

Downloads fell 38.6% while revenue rose 2.4%. A product page that converts more of its visitors wins installs back without more ad spend.

Apply it to your app

A checklist for your next product page update.

  • Put the main benefit in the headline of image 1, and show the app in use on the phone.
  • Use one number a visitor can picture, such as a before and after value.
  • Show names or icons of the things your app works with, so visitors can check fast.
  • Keep the second line of text short. Small lines are hard to read in search results.
  • Use one background and one frame style on every image, and match the icon color.
  • Label self-reported numbers as your own, and add an outside rating or award if you have one.
How it works

How the ASO score works

  1. 01

    App name, 25 points

Up to 10 for how much of Apple's 30 characters it uses, 10 for a brand + keyword structure, 5 when keywords fill half the name or more.

  2. 02

    Screenshots, 35 points

Captions on every image, captions that name searched features, a first screenshot that shows the main use, one design system, readability at search size, and a trust signal.

  3. 03

    Ratings, 25 points

Up to 15 for the average (from 4.0, full marks at 4.8) and 10 for the count (from 1,000, full marks at 100,000 ratings).

  4. 04

    Freshness, 15 points

Full marks for an update in the last 30 days, falling to zero at 180 days. 85+ is excellent, 70+ strong, 50+ fair.

FAQ

Common questions

What is an ASO score?

A 100-point check of the parts of an App Store page you control: the app name, screenshots, ratings and how recently the app was updated. It's our own scoring rule, shown in full on this page, not a number from Apple. Use it to compare your page with apps that already sell well in your category.

How long can an app name be on the App Store?

30 characters. A common pattern is a short brand followed by the main thing people search for, like “LagoFast Game Booster: Low Lag”, which uses 30. Apple also gives you a 30-character subtitle and a 100-character keyword field for more terms.

Which screenshots show up in App Store search results?

The first one to three, when the app has no preview video. That's why the first three should cover the main reasons people download. LagoFast Game Booster uses them for lag, game servers and low ping.

How many screenshots can an iPhone app have?

Up to 10 per device size. Apple recommends focusing each screenshot after the first on one main benefit or feature. LagoFast Game Booster uses 5.

Where do the download and revenue numbers come from?

They're third-party estimates for the US App Store, not figures reported by the developer. Treat them as a sense of scale. Growth compares the latest month with the month before.

Do screenshot captions help an app rank in search?

Apple says search results use text matches in the app name, subtitle, keywords and primary category, plus user behavior such as downloads, ratings and reviews. Captions aren't on that list: they help people who already see the app decide to download. When a caption names something people search for, put that term in the keyword field too.
