Screenshots and why they convert

5 screenshots of up to 10. The first 3 show in search results when there's no preview video.

  1. Screenshot 4: 100% safe, trusted & Privacy-first platform.
  2. Screenshot 5: Compare with Peers & Improve

    Discover Your Credit Score

    • credit scorein name
    What it shows
A phone home screen titled Credit Score Check & Report with a purple card offering Quick Check (2 min) and Full Report (5 min), plus Simulator and Health tiles.
    Why it converts
Names the app's job in the first frame, and the home screen shows the two ways to start. The caption repeats the app name, so it adds little beyond what the title already says.
  2. #2In search results

    Boost Your Credit Score

    • credit scorein name
    What it shows
A simulation result card showing a projected score of 793 (+91 points) against a current 702, with sliders for a new credit limit. A person stands at the right edge, with a dashed arrow pointing up at the phone.
    Why it converts
Shows an outcome, a higher score, instead of a menu. The score jump is large and readable.
  3. #3In search results

    Know Your Credit Score Instantly

    • credit scorein name
    What it shows
A smiling person holding a green card and gesturing at a cropped phone showing a score of 650 marked GOOD, with options such as Pay Off Debt and Better Payments.
    Why it converts
Puts a person next to the product, which gives the set a human face. The phone is cut off by the frame, so most of the UI is hard to read. The caption repeats the first screenshot's message.
  4. #4

    100% safe, trusted & Privacy-first platform.

      What it shows
A phone cropped at the left edge showing a Credit Score Simulator with a 650 estimate and scenario tiles such as Lower Usage and Increase Limit.
      Why it converts
Speaks to trust, which matters for a finance app. The claim is the app's own and the image gives no proof behind it, so it works as a statement rather than evidence. The UI is cut off and too small to read.
    • #5

      Compare with Peers & Improve

      • comparenot in name
      What it shows
A Comparison Tools screen with a credit ranking of 650 (Bottom 25%), national, age group and income figures, and tiles for Score Benchmarking, Rate Calculator and Credit Product Matcher.
      Why it converts
Gives a clear reason to keep using the app after the first check: see where you stand against others. The screen is fully visible and the key numbers are large enough to read.

    Icon and design system

What makes the page read as one brand at a glance.

    120px
    60px
    40px
    • The gauge arc and needle say “score” at a glance, and the words “Credit Score” name the category.
    • The text is large and white on solid blue, so it stays readable at small sizes.
    • The icon uses a dark blue and a plain white-on-blue look. The in-app icon shown in screenshot 3 is a different, white tile with a small gauge.
    1. 01

Big white headline on a blue gradient

Most images have a bold white caption at the top over a deep blue background. The text is large and easy to read.

    2. 02

      The same message, repeated

The first three captions all say “credit score”. This keeps the topic clear, but two of them say almost the same thing.

    3. 03

      Cropped and tilted phones

Some phones are cut off or shifted to the edge. This adds variety, but it hides part of the UI the caption points to.

    4. 04

      A person on one image

One image adds a person holding a card. It breaks up the screens, and the app's UI becomes secondary.

    5. 05

      Tools after the check

The set moves from checking the score to simulating changes to comparing with others. Each step adds a reason to return.

    Where the points are

    1. Ship an update+15 pts

The last update was 268 days ago. A new version also refreshes the "What's New" notes people read before they download.

    2. Ask happy users for a rating+14 pts

4.6 stars from 170 ratings. Apple's in-app rating prompt can be shown up to 3 times a year; show it right after a user finishes something in the app.

    3. Check caption terms against your subtitle and keywords

1 caption terms aren't in the app name: compare. Captions don't count for search; the subtitle and the 100-character keyword field do.

    Apply it to your app

A checklist for your next product page update.

    • Name the main job in the first caption, and do not repeat it in the next one.
    • Show an outcome, such as a before and after number, on the screen.
    • Keep the whole screen you are pointing to visible, not cropped.
    • Back up a trust claim with something visible: a rating, a user count or a named source.
    • Give each screenshot a different reason to download.
    • Keep one caption style and background so the set reads as one story.
    How it works

    How the ASO score works

    1. 01

      App name, 25 points

Up to 10 for how much of Apple's 30 characters it uses, 10 for a brand + keyword structure, 5 when keywords fill half the name or more.

    2. 02

      Screenshots, 35 points

Captions on every image, captions that name searched features, a first screenshot that shows the main use, one design system, readability at search size, and a trust signal.

    3. 03

      Ratings, 25 points

Up to 15 for the average (from 4.0, full marks at 4.8) and 10 for the count (from 1,000, full marks at 100,000 ratings).

    4. 04

      Freshness, 15 points

Full marks for an update in the last 30 days, falling to zero at 180 days. 85+ is excellent, 70+ strong, 50+ fair.

    FAQ

    Common questions

    What is an ASO score?

A 100-point check of the parts of an App Store page you control: the app name, screenshots, ratings and how recently the app was updated. It's our own scoring rule, shown in full on this page, not a number from Apple. Use it to compare your page with apps that already sell well in your category.

How long can an app name be on the App Store?

30 characters. Apple also gives you a 30-character subtitle and a 100-character keyword field for more terms.

Which screenshots show up in App Store search results?

The first one to three, when the app has no preview video. That's why the first three should cover the main reasons people download. Credit Score Check & Report uses them for credit score, credit score and credit score.

How many screenshots can an iPhone app have?

Up to 10 per device size. Apple recommends focusing each screenshot after the first on one main benefit or feature. Credit Score Check & Report uses 5.

Where do the download and revenue numbers come from?

They're third-party estimates for the US App Store, not figures reported by the developer. Treat them as a sense of scale. Growth compares the latest month with the month before.

Do screenshot captions help an app rank in search?

Apple says search results use text matches in the app name, subtitle, keywords and primary category, plus user behavior such as downloads, ratings and reviews. Captions aren't on that list: they help people who already see the app decide to download. When a caption names something people search for, put that term in the keyword field too.
