Screenshots and why they convert

7 screenshots of up to 10, the first 6 shown here. The first 3 show in search results when there's no preview video.

  1. Screenshot 4: Roleplay any scenario
  2. Screenshot 5: In-depth Feedback
  3. Screenshot 6: Learn Charisma Fast
  1. #1In search results

Master social skills Build real charisma

    • social skillsnot in name
    • charismain name
    What it shows
Three people in a row over a dark green background, with laurel badges for “Loved by 10 million users” and 4.8 stars. Topic chips read Charisma, Persuasion, Dating, Job interviews and Networking, and a blue badge says “50x cheaper than a coach”.
    Why it converts
Names the goal and the method in one frame: practice talks, get scores and lessons. The chips show several situations people may want help with. The user count, rating and price claim are the app's own printed claims.
  2. #2In search results

    Your personal charisma coach

    • charisma coachin name
    What it shows
A cartoon coach face on a phone, with chat bubbles that flag “uh” and “like” in a spoken sentence and show a cleaner rewrite.
    Why it converts
Shows what the coaching does with a concrete example. A visitor can see the app reacts while you speak, not just after.
  3. #3In search results

    Coaching that targets your goals

    • soft skillnot in name
    What it shows
A skill menu from the coach: Social Confidence, Public Speaking, Dating & Attraction, Leadership Presence, Conflict & Boundaries, Charisma and Storytelling.
    Why it converts
Shows the range of topics in one list, so a visitor can find their own goal. The menu text is small, so it is hard to read in search results.
  4. #4

    Roleplay any scenario

    • roleplaynot in name
    What it shows
A challenge library with a search bar and filter tabs (Dating, Persuasion, Professional, Situational). Cards include “Get a Stranger's Number” and “Buy a Used Car and Negotiate the Price Down”.
    Why it converts
Concrete scenarios are easier to picture than the word “scenario”. The card titles are small.
  5. #5

    In-depth Feedback

    • feedbacknot in name
    What it shows
A result screen with a line chart of the conversation, labeled moments, a +50 XP reward and a Confidence score of 75%.
    Why it converts
Shows what you get after a session: a score and a timeline. This answers the question of how the app tells you how you did.
  6. #6

    Learn Charisma Fast

    • micro-lessonsnot in name
    What it shows
A lesson path with one lesson in progress and the next ones locked. Each lesson shows 10 min and 5 points, with a 0% progress bar.
    Why it converts
Adds a structured learning path to the practice features. The locked steps hint at progress, though the UI text is small.

Icon and design system

What makes the page read as one brand at a glance.

120px
60px
40px
  • The letters XP are the only element, so the shape is simple and easy to spot.
  • The icon does not say what the app does. The name and the screenshots have to explain it.
  • Dark purple base matches the dark backgrounds in the screenshots, but the icon's orange and pink gradient does not appear in the green accents.
  1. 01

    Two-tone headlines

A white line, then a green or lime line for the key phrase. The accent color marks the part to read first.

  2. 02

    Proof on the first image

Laurel badges with a user count and a 4.8 rating sit on image 1, next to a price claim. All are the app's own printed claims.

  3. 03

    Topic chips name real situations

Dating, job interviews, networking and persuasion are listed as plain words, so visitors can spot their own use case.

  4. 04

    Phone mockup under a headline

Most images pair a headline and a one-line subtitle with a device showing real screens, usually in the same position.

  5. 05

    Features from coaching to lessons

The set moves from coaching, to goals, to scenarios, to feedback, to lessons.

Where the points are

  1. Ask happy users for a rating+15 pts

4.4 stars from 2,572 ratings. Apple's in-app rating prompt can be shown up to 3 times a year; show it right after a user finishes something in the app.

  2. Check caption terms against your subtitle and keywords

5 caption terms aren't in the app name: social skills, soft skill, roleplay, feedback, micro-lessons. Captions don't count for search; the subtitle and the 100-character keyword field do.

Apply it to your app

A checklist for your next product page update.

  • Put your goal and your method in the first headline.
  • If you show a rating or user count, place it on the first image and keep it accurate.
  • Name the real situations your users face, in their words.
  • Use one accent color to mark the key phrase in every headline.
  • Enlarge the key UI element so it reads at search-result size.
  • Show the result a user gets, such as a score or timeline, not only the input screen.
How it works

How the ASO score works

  1. 01

    App name, 25 points

Up to 10 for how much of Apple's 30 characters it uses, 10 for a brand + keyword structure, 5 when keywords fill half the name or more.

  2. 02

    Screenshots, 35 points

Captions on every image, captions that name searched features, a first screenshot that shows the main use, one design system, readability at search size, and a trust signal.

  3. 03

    Ratings, 25 points

Up to 15 for the average (from 4.0, full marks at 4.8) and 10 for the count (from 1,000, full marks at 100,000 ratings).

  4. 04

    Freshness, 15 points

Full marks for an update in the last 30 days, falling to zero at 180 days. 85+ is excellent, 70+ strong, 50+ fair.

FAQ

Common questions

What is an ASO score?

A 100-point check of the parts of an App Store page you control: the app name, screenshots, ratings and how recently the app was updated. It's our own scoring rule, shown in full on this page, not a number from Apple. Use it to compare your page with apps that already sell well in your category.

How long can an app name be on the App Store?

30 characters. A common pattern is a short brand followed by the main thing people search for, like “CharmXP: AI Charisma Coach”, which uses 26. Apple also gives you a 30-character subtitle and a 100-character keyword field for more terms.

Which screenshots show up in App Store search results?

The first one to three, when the app has no preview video. That's why the first three should cover the main reasons people download. CharmXP uses them for social skills, charisma coach and soft skill.

How many screenshots can an iPhone app have?

Up to 10 per device size. Apple recommends focusing each screenshot after the first on one main benefit or feature. CharmXP uses 7.

Where do the download and revenue numbers come from?

They're third-party estimates for the US App Store, not figures reported by the developer. Treat them as a sense of scale. Growth compares the latest month with the month before.

Do screenshot captions help an app rank in search?

Apple says search results use text matches in the app name, subtitle, keywords and primary category, plus user behavior such as downloads, ratings and reviews. Captions aren't on that list: they help people who already see the app decide to download. When a caption names something people search for, put that term in the keyword field too.
