Screenshots and why they convert
7 screenshots of up to 10, the first 6 shown here. The first 3 show in search results when there's no preview video.

#1In search results
Six pack abs
- six pack absnot in name
- What it shows
- A shirtless torso with defined abs and a circular inset of the same torso before editing. A tool bar below lists Abs, Chest, Pump Up, Retouch and Crop.
- Why it converts
- Shows the result and the edit tools in the first frame, so a visitor sees what the app does to a photo. The caption names one outcome people look for.

#2In search results
Brutal chest
- chestnot in name
- What it shows
- A shirtless torso with dashed lines and arrows drawn over the chest. The same tool bar sits below.
- Why it converts
- The arrows hint at how the chest edit works. The caption is short, but "brutal" does not say what changes.

#3In search results
Bulky muscles
- musclesnot in name
- What it shows
- A man flexing one arm with a circle and resize handle on the bicep. A slider reads 57 under a Pump Up label.
- Why it converts
- Shows a manual control with a slider, so a visitor learns the edit is adjustable. The circle marks the part the caption talks about.

#4
Realistic body editor
- body editorin name
- What it shows
- A split image of one man, plain on the left and with defined abs on the right. The tool bar is below.
- Why it converts
- The split view makes the change easy to see at a glance. The caption names the app's category in plain words.

#5
Acne remover
- acne removernot in name
- What it shows
- A face split down the middle, with blemishes and red eye on the left and clear skin on the right. Retouch tools are Smooth, Emphasize, Whiten and Red Eye.
- Why it converts
- Adds a second use beyond body edits, for people who look for skin retouching. The before and after split carries the message without extra text.

#6
Stunning filters
- filtersnot in name
- What it shows
- A split beach photo of two people in a handstand pose, a toned version on the left and a warm version on the right. A strip of filter thumbnails A01 to A04 sits below.
- Why it converts
- Shows a general photo feature. The caption is a vague adjective plus a feature name, and the image is not a body edit.
Icon and design system
What makes the page read as one brand at a glance.
- 01
Result first
The first image shows toned abs and a before inset, so the outcome comes first in the frame.
- 02
Split before and after
Several images use a vertical split or inset. A visitor sees the change without reading any text.
- 03
Same banner on most images
Most images have a slanted gradient banner with a bold white all-caps caption. The editor tool bar repeats below the photo in several images.
- 04
Short captions with a mixed message
Captions are two or three words. Some name a clear outcome, such as "six pack abs" and "acne remover". Others, such as "brutal chest" and "stunning filters", are vague.
- 05
Scope widens at the end
The set starts with body edits, then moves to skin retouching and general filters. This adds more uses but may weaken the body focus.

Apply it to your app
A checklist for your next product page update.
- Show the finished result in the first screenshot, not the menu.
- Use a before and after split when the change is visual.
- Name the outcome in the caption with a word your users use.
- Keep one banner style, one font and one tool bar across the set.
- Give each image one idea, and keep the order from your core use to extras.
- Add a rating, award or user count if you have one. This set shows none.
How the ASO score works
- 01
App name, 25 points
Up to 10 for how much of Apple's 30 characters it uses, 10 for a brand + keyword structure, 5 when keywords fill half the name or more.
- 02
Screenshots, 35 points
Captions on every image, captions that name searched features, a first screenshot that shows the main use, one design system, readability at search size, and a trust signal.
- 03
Ratings, 25 points
Up to 15 for the average (from 4.0, full marks at 4.8) and 10 for the count (from 1,000, full marks at 100,000 ratings).
- 04
Freshness, 15 points
Full marks for an update in the last 30 days, falling to zero at 180 days. 85+ is excellent, 70+ strong, 50+ fair.
Common questions
What is an ASO score?
A 100-point check of the parts of an App Store page you control: the app name, screenshots, ratings and how recently the app was updated. It's our own scoring rule, shown in full on this page, not a number from Apple. Use it to compare your page with apps that already sell well in your category.
How long can an app name be on the App Store?
30 characters. Apple also gives you a 30-character subtitle and a 100-character keyword field for more terms.
Which screenshots show up in App Store search results?
The first one to three, when the app has no preview video. That's why the first three should cover the main reasons people download. Body Tune for Men-Photo Editor uses them for six pack abs, chest and muscles.
How many screenshots can an iPhone app have?
Up to 10 per device size. Apple recommends focusing each screenshot after the first on one main benefit or feature. Body Tune for Men-Photo Editor uses 7.
Where do the download and revenue numbers come from?
They're third-party estimates for the US App Store, not figures reported by the developer. Treat them as a sense of scale. Growth compares the latest month with the month before.
Do screenshot captions help an app rank in search?
Apple says search results use text matches in the app name, subtitle, keywords and primary category, plus user behavior such as downloads, ratings and reviews. Captions aren't on that list: they help people who already see the app decide to download. When a caption names something people search for, put that term in the keyword field too.
Where the numbers come from
- Apple: Creating your product page
- App name limit (30 characters), up to 10 screenshots, the first one to three shown in search results, keyword field.
- Apple: App Store search
- Search results use text relevance (name, subtitle, keywords, primary category) and user behavior (downloads, ratings, reviews).
- Apple: Ratings, reviews and responses
- The in-app rating prompt can be shown up to three times in a 365-day period.
- Body Tune for Men-Photo Editor on the App Store
- Name, developer, category, icon, screenshots, rating, release and update dates (US storefront), checked Nov 4, 2026.
