Screenshots and why they convert

7 screenshots of up to 10, the first 6 shown here. The first 3 show in search results when there's no preview video.

  1. Screenshot 4: Save your searches!
  2. Screenshot 5: Edit your profile!
  3. Screenshot 6: Add a job!
  1. #1In search results

    Give your career a boost!

      What it shows
The bestjobs logo and a tilted phone with a job listing: a Sales Development Representative role with a salary range, a star rating and a Remote tag. A small line reads "Develop your skills and get noticed."
      Why it converts
Shows a real job listing right away, so a visitor can guess the app is for job search. The headline is a general promise and the phone is tilted and cropped, so the listing is partly cut off.
    • #2In search results

      Choose the right job!

      • jobnot in name
      What it shows
A search panel with recent searches, a keywords box and a city box, over two tilted phones with a job description and a candidate message.
      Why it converts
Names the job seeker's main task, search and filter, and shows the search box doing it. Two cropped phones add detail but make the screen busy.
    • #3In search results

      Choose the right candidate!

      • candidatenot in name
      What it shows
An applicants list with an Interview tab, a candidate profile photo with a Video CV label and a "BestProfiller - 75%" match tag.
      Why it converts
Speaks to a second audience, employers who hire. The same caption pattern as the previous image makes the switch easy to follow, but a job seeker may not see it as meant for them.
    • #4

      Save your searches!

      • saved searchesnot in name
      What it shows
A saved searches list with filters and frequency settings, and a job results screen with a "Job alert" switch turned on.
      Why it converts
Explains a benefit in plain words: be told when new matching jobs appear. The tilted phones carry small text that is hard to read at search-result size.
    • #5

      Edit your profile!

      • profilenot in name
      What it shows
A single upright phone with a CV prompt and two buttons, "Complete your CV" and "Upload CV".
      Why it converts
One phone, one action, large buttons.
    • #6

      Add a job!

      • jobnot in name
      What it shows
A single upright phone with an add-a-job form: job title, employer, vacancies, employment type and career level, plus a note about 7 days of free promotion.
      Why it converts
Shows the employer flow with a free-promotion offer. The form is dense, and the printed claim about the most flexible recruitment service in Romania is the app's own.

    Icon and design system

What makes the page read as one brand at a glance.

    120px
    60px
    40px
    • One green mark on a dark background, with no text. It is simple and has strong contrast.
    • The green matches the brand color used for the logo and the buttons in the screenshots.
    • The shape does not say "jobs" on its own, so the name has to carry that meaning.
    1. 01

      Most images share one template

Most images have a light blue gradient, a dark bold headline, a short sub-line and small shapes in the corners. The set reads as one system.

    2. 02

      Two audiences in one gallery

The early images are for people who look for jobs, then one image for hiring, and the last one for posting a job. The store page has to serve both groups.

    3. 03

      Imperative headlines

"Choose the right job!", "Save your searches!" and "Edit your profile!" each tell the visitor what to do.

    4. 04

Tilted devices in the first images

Phones are rotated and cropped to add movement. The side effect is that some job titles and settings are cut off.

    5. 05

Offer shown in the product screen

The final image puts "7 days of free promotion" inside the form. The offer sits in the UI, not in the headline.

    Where the points are

    1. Use the rest of the app name+22 pts

22 characters are free. Add the next most important search term.

    2. Ask happy users for a rating+10 pts

4.8 stars from 197 ratings. Apple's in-app rating prompt can be shown up to 3 times a year; show it right after a user finishes something in the app.

    3. Check caption terms against your subtitle and keywords

4 caption terms aren't in the app name: job, candidate, saved searches, profile. Captions don't count for search; the subtitle and the 100-character keyword field do.

    Apply it to your app

A checklist for your next product page update.

    • Make screenshot 1 show what the app does in a headline, not only a general promise.
    • Keep the logo small in the first image so the space goes to the product.
    • Name the audience in the headline when the app serves more than one group.
    • Keep tilted or cropped phones from hiding the text that sells the feature.
    • Use one clear action per image, with a sub-line that gives the reason.
    • Put a free offer in the headline if you want it seen at search-result size.
    How it works

    How the ASO score works

    1. 01

      App name, 25 points

Up to 10 for how much of Apple's 30 characters it uses, 10 for a brand + keyword structure, 5 when keywords fill half the name or more.

    2. 02

      Screenshots, 35 points

Captions on every image, captions that name searched features, a first screenshot that shows the main use, one design system, readability at search size, and a trust signal.

    3. 03

      Ratings, 25 points

Up to 15 for the average (from 4.0, full marks at 4.8) and 10 for the count (from 1,000, full marks at 100,000 ratings).

    4. 04

      Freshness, 15 points

Full marks for an update in the last 30 days, falling to zero at 180 days. 85+ is excellent, 70+ strong, 50+ fair.

    FAQ

    Common questions

    What is an ASO score?

A 100-point check of the parts of an App Store page you control: the app name, screenshots, ratings and how recently the app was updated. It's our own scoring rule, shown in full on this page, not a number from Apple. Use it to compare your page with apps that already sell well in your category.

How long can an app name be on the App Store?

30 characters. Apple also gives you a 30-character subtitle and a 100-character keyword field for more terms.

Which screenshots show up in App Store search results?

The first one to three, when the app has no preview video. That's why the first three should cover the main reasons people download. bestjobs uses them for job and candidate.

How many screenshots can an iPhone app have?

Up to 10 per device size. Apple recommends focusing each screenshot after the first on one main benefit or feature. bestjobs uses 7.

Where do the download and revenue numbers come from?

They're third-party estimates for the US App Store, not figures reported by the developer. Treat them as a sense of scale. Growth compares the latest month with the month before.

Do screenshot captions help an app rank in search?

Apple says search results use text matches in the app name, subtitle, keywords and primary category, plus user behavior such as downloads, ratings and reviews. Captions aren't on that list: they help people who already see the app decide to download. When a caption names something people search for, put that term in the keyword field too.
