Screenshots and why they convert

6 screenshots of up to 10. The first 3 show in search results when there's no preview video.

  1. Screenshot 4:
  2. Screenshot 5: Verified Profiles
  3. Screenshot 6: Meet someone special
  1. #1In search results

      What it shows
The arike wordmark on a yellow sunburst, above a phone showing a profile card: Harshita, 23, a Verified badge, job and college lines, a photo, Kochi, India, and the start of a voice prompt.
      Why it converts
Shows a real profile on the first frame, so a visitor sees it is a dating app with verified people. No headline is printed, so the main use is shown only through the card, not stated.
    • #2In search results

Talk About What Malayalis Love To Talk about

      • malayalisin name
      What it shows
A voice note about food choices and a chat reply, plus a text prompt asking “Mammootty or Mohanlal”, in a phone frame under a dark headline.
      Why it converts
Names the community in the headline and uses local food and film talk as the example. This tells a visitor who the app is for, and what a first chat can look like.
    • #3In search results

Search for your kind of person

      • searchnot in name
      What it shows
A “Select” list with the line “over 10000+ handpicked members”, and large photo cards with a name and city.
      Why it converts
Turns the browsing feature into a benefit. The “10000+ handpicked members” line is the app's own claim, and it gives a visitor a sense of pool size.
    • #4

        What it shows
A Notes card reading “Tap to review 10+ notes” and an “Interested in you” row with two photos, over a tab bar.
        Why it converts
Shows the inbox of incoming interest. With no caption, the visitor must work out what the screen means. The line “Premium members can see all their requests” hints at a paid tier.
      • #5

        Verified Profiles

        • verified profilesnot in name
        What it shows
A headline and three lines of text explaining the selfie check and blue tick, a large “Verified” badge on a profile card with a name, age, job and photo.
        Why it converts
Explains how verification works in plain words and shows the badge on a real card. This speaks to a common worry in dating apps: who is real. The body text is small for a thumbnail.
      • #6

        Meet someone special

          What it shows
A chat in yellow and grey bubbles mixing English and Malayalam-style words, about Sunday plans and jobs.
          Why it converts
Ends on the outcome, a conversation, in the community's own mix of languages. The headline is a general phrase, so the chat text does the specific work.

        Icon and design system

What makes the page read as one brand at a glance.

        120px
        60px
        40px
        • One idea: the app name in the community's own script, topped by a heart. It says “dating” and “Malayalam” without extra words.
        • Black and yellow match the screenshot palette, so icon and gallery read as one brand.
        • The script is bold with a plain white background, so it should hold at small sizes. The heart is the only small detail.
        1. 01

          Yellow sunburst across the set

Yellow rays and a white phone frame repeat on most images, with a dark bold headline above. Swiping feels like one set.

        2. 02

Real profile cards as the main visual

People and profile details fill most images.

        3. 03

          Built for one community

Food, film stars and mixed-language chat appear in the images. A visitor from that community sees themselves quickly.

        4. 04

          Verification gets its own image

A full image explains the selfie check and shows the badge. It answers a trust question directly.

        5. 05

          Captions are uneven

Some images carry a headline and some carry none. The first image has only the logo, so the core promise comes later.

        Where the points are

        1. Ask happy users for a rating+15 pts

4.5 stars from 1,122 ratings. Apple's in-app rating prompt can be shown up to 3 times a year; show it right after a user finishes something in the app.

        2. Check caption terms against your subtitle and keywords

2 caption terms aren't in the app name: search, verified profiles. Captions don't count for search; the subtitle and the 100-character keyword field do.

        Apply it to your app

A checklist for your next product page update.

        • Put a clear headline on the first screenshot. Say what the app does and for whom.
        • Use the same background, frame and headline style on every image.
        • Show real use, such as a profile or a chat, instead of menus.
        • Give a trust worry, such as fake profiles, its own screenshot with a plain explanation.
        • Use your audience's own words and topics in the examples.
        • Keep body text large enough to read at search-result size, or cut it.
        How it works

        How the ASO score works

        1. 01

          App name, 25 points

Up to 10 for how much of Apple's 30 characters it uses, 10 for a brand + keyword structure, 5 when keywords fill half the name or more.

        2. 02

          Screenshots, 35 points

Captions on every image, captions that name searched features, a first screenshot that shows the main use, one design system, readability at search size, and a trust signal.

        3. 03

          Ratings, 25 points

Up to 15 for the average (from 4.0, full marks at 4.8) and 10 for the count (from 1,000, full marks at 100,000 ratings).

        4. 04

          Freshness, 15 points

Full marks for an update in the last 30 days, falling to zero at 180 days. 85+ is excellent, 70+ strong, 50+ fair.

        FAQ

        Common questions

        What is an ASO score?

A 100-point check of the parts of an App Store page you control: the app name, screenshots, ratings and how recently the app was updated. It's our own scoring rule, shown in full on this page, not a number from Apple. Use it to compare your page with apps that already sell well in your category.

How long can an app name be on the App Store?

30 characters. A common pattern is a short brand followed by the main thing people search for, like “Arike - Where Malayalis Date”, which uses 28. Apple also gives you a 30-character subtitle and a 100-character keyword field for more terms.

Which screenshots show up in App Store search results?

The first one to three, when the app has no preview video. That's why the first three should cover the main reasons people download. Arike uses them for malayalis and search.

How many screenshots can an iPhone app have?

Up to 10 per device size. Apple recommends focusing each screenshot after the first on one main benefit or feature. Arike uses 6.

Where do the download and revenue numbers come from?

They're third-party estimates for the US App Store, not figures reported by the developer. Treat them as a sense of scale. Growth compares the latest month with the month before.

Do screenshot captions help an app rank in search?

Apple says search results use text matches in the app name, subtitle, keywords and primary category, plus user behavior such as downloads, ratings and reviews. Captions aren't on that list: they help people who already see the app decide to download. When a caption names something people search for, put that term in the keyword field too.
