Screenshots and why they convert

6 screenshots of up to 10. The first 3 show in search results when there's no preview video.

    AI PHOTO & VIDEO GENERATOR

    • ai photo & video generatornot in name
    What it shows
The AIYAI wordmark, the line “AI Photo & Video Generator”, and a collage of styled portrait photos in black and white and in color.
    Why it converts
Names the app and what it makes in one frame, so a visitor knows the category before reading anything else. The collage shows the kind of results on offer, but no step of how to get them.
  2. #2In search results

    SNAP THE PERFECT B-DAY SHOTS

    • b-day shotsnot in name
    What it shows
A result screen titled “Celebration” with a portrait holding a cake among red balloons, and a gradient “Try Style” button.
    Why it converts
Sells one occasion with a clear result. The button shows there is an action to take next. “B-day” is a use case a visitor can picture.
  3. #3In search results

    CREATE CLASSIC B&W AI PORTRAITS

    • b&w ai portraitsnot in name
    What it shows
A grid of black and white portraits, a small round “Original” photo in the corner, and Save and Share buttons.
    Why it converts
The “Original” inset shows the input next to the output, so the visitor sees what the app does to a photo. The caption names a style, which is easy to scan.
  4. #4

    CREATE ICONIC AI PORTRAITS

    • ai portraitsnot in name
    What it shows
A portrait in a fur coat inside a car, a round selfie-style inset with an arrow pointing to it, a style named “Fur”, and a “Try Style” button.
    Why it converts
The arrow from the inset to the result explains the before and after without words. “AI portraits” is a plain phrase for a feature people may look for.
  5. #5

TURN YOUR SELFIE INTO A VIRAL VIDEO

    • viral videonot in name
    What it shows
A portrait in a red sequined top, an “Original” inset, a frame strip with a 0:02 marker, and a “Create a Video” button.
    Why it converts
Covers the video half of the name, which the earlier images do not show. “Viral” is a promise about the outcome rather than a description of the feature, so the visitor must trust it.
  6. #6

    TRY DIFFERENT HAIRSTYLES

    • hairstylesnot in name
    What it shows
A split view of one person, “Before” on the left with long curly red hair and “After” on the right with a short black bob, plus Save and Share buttons.
    Why it converts
The Before and After split is quick to read.

Icon and design system

What makes the page read as one brand at a glance.

120px
60px
40px
  • The icon is the app name as text, so it says the name but not what the app does.
  • The blue-to-pink gradient matches the buttons and the logo on the first screenshot, so icon and gallery read as one brand.
  • The four letters fill the frame with high contrast on a dark background, which keeps them readable at small sizes.
  1. 01

    Bold white caps on dark

Most captions are two short lines of large white capitals on a near-black background. The text stays readable when the image is small.

  2. 02

One idea per screenshot after the first

Each later image sells one result: birthday shots, black and white portraits, iconic portraits, a video, hairstyles. The caption names it.

  3. 03

    Input beside output

Several images pair a small “Original” photo or a Before and After split with the result. The visitor sees the change, not only the final image.

  4. 04

    Gradient buttons from the icon

Buttons such as “Try Style” and “Create a Video” use the same blue-to-pink gradient as the logo, so the app UI matches the brand.

  5. 05

    No trust signal

No rating, user count, award or press mention is printed on any image.

Where the points are

  1. Ask happy users for a rating+12 pts

4.7 stars from 386 ratings. Apple's in-app rating prompt can be shown up to 3 times a year; show it right after a user finishes something in the app.

  2. Ship an update+2 pts

The last update was 48 days ago. A new version also refreshes the "What's New" notes people read before they download.

  3. Check caption terms against your subtitle and keywords

6 caption terms aren't in the app name: ai photo & video generator, b-day shots, b&w ai portraits, ai portraits, viral video, hairstyles. Captions don't count for search; the subtitle and the 100-character keyword field do.

Apply it to your app

A checklist for your next product page update.

  • Say what the app makes in the first screenshot, in plain words.
  • Give each screenshot one result and name it in the caption.
  • Show the input next to the output so the change is clear.
  • Use large, high-contrast caption text that reads at thumbnail size.
  • Reuse your icon colors in buttons and highlights.
  • Add a rating, user count or press mention if you have a real one.
How it works

How the ASO score works

  1. 01

    App name, 25 points

Up to 10 for how much of Apple's 30 characters it uses, 10 for a brand + keyword structure, 5 when keywords fill half the name or more.

  2. 02

    Screenshots, 35 points

Captions on every image, captions that name searched features, a first screenshot that shows the main use, one design system, readability at search size, and a trust signal.

  3. 03

    Ratings, 25 points

Up to 15 for the average (from 4.0, full marks at 4.8) and 10 for the count (from 1,000, full marks at 100,000 ratings).

  4. 04

    Freshness, 15 points

Full marks for an update in the last 30 days, falling to zero at 180 days. 85+ is excellent, 70+ strong, 50+ fair.

FAQ

Common questions

What is an ASO score?

A 100-point check of the parts of an App Store page you control: the app name, screenshots, ratings and how recently the app was updated. It's our own scoring rule, shown in full on this page, not a number from Apple. Use it to compare your page with apps that already sell well in your category.

How long can an app name be on the App Store?

30 characters. A common pattern is a short brand followed by the main thing people search for, like “AIYAI - AI Photo & Video Maker”, which uses 30. Apple also gives you a 30-character subtitle and a 100-character keyword field for more terms.

Which screenshots show up in App Store search results?

The first one to three, when the app has no preview video. That's why the first three should cover the main reasons people download. AIYAI uses them for ai photo & video generator, b-day shots and b&w ai portraits.

How many screenshots can an iPhone app have?

Up to 10 per device size. Apple recommends focusing each screenshot after the first on one main benefit or feature. AIYAI uses 6.

Where do the download and revenue numbers come from?

They're third-party estimates for the US App Store, not figures reported by the developer. Treat them as a sense of scale. Growth compares the latest month with the month before.

Do screenshot captions help an app rank in search?

Apple says search results use text matches in the app name, subtitle, keywords and primary category, plus user behavior such as downloads, ratings and reviews. Captions aren't on that list: they help people who already see the app decide to download. When a caption names something people search for, put that term in the keyword field too.
