The measurement gap

distinct creators in a 13 video sample

1. Creators sell both sides

Thirteen creator videos turned up, 7 on Instagram and 6 on TikTok, from 11 different creators. They split into two pitches. One is the study routine: a productive study morning with Studocu AI, or using the Ask AI camera and quizzes to learn faster. The other is money: upload your notes and get paid, access thousands of notes from other students, make extra cash for the effort you already put into class. The second pitch recruits the supply that makes Studocu useful, so each creator post grows the library as well as the user base. Studocu briefs creators on both sides of the product, the uploader and the reader, not just the buyer side.

2. A back to school ad set

New semester, one app doing the absolute most: record lectures, find course docs, ask AI and make quizzes. That line runs on 11 of the 12 top ads, and the twelfth promises less searching through browser tabs and more actual studying. All 12 are video, 11 link to the App Store and the median has run 26 days, so this is a seasonal set built for the start of term. Active ads peaked at 128 on Oct 7, 2026 and are now 30. Estimated Meta spend went 68.3% to ages 18 to 24, which is the student itself. Studocu ties one short line to the start of term and runs it only while that moment lasts.

3. Payout trust in reviews

Of 155 reviews on record, averaging 2.86, 37 mention price, trial or subscription and 32 of those are negative. Many are not about the $34.99 quarter or the $79.99 year. They are from uploaders: students who were promised payment for notes and say the money never arrived, or that payouts slow down after a while. The same promise that creators use to recruit supply becomes the main complaint when it is not kept. The store rating is still 4.8 from 5.9K ratings. A smaller two sided app should learn from this: if you pay contributors, make the payout rules and timing visible before they upload, because unpaid suppliers write reviews too.

4. The measurement gap

Studocu runs creators who sell studying and creators who sell paid note uploads, plus a back to school ad set. The question is which creator and which pitch bring students who buy the $79.99 year, and which only bring uploaders, since both arrive as the same install.

How to measure a playbook like Studocu's

Studocu works with 11 creators on Instagram and TikTok and runs a back to school ad set. Measuring it means telling apart the students who pay from the students who upload.

  1. 01

Give every creator their own tracking link

Put one link in each creator bio, caption or landing page. Installs from that link count for that creator instead of showing up as organic.

  2. 02

Upload what you pay each creator

Add creator fees with a CSV cost upload and use the creator name as the campaign. You get cost per install for each creator next to your paid channels.

  3. 03

Connect RevenueCat to see who brings payers

Subscription events flow into the same report, so you see which creators bring people who start a trial and keep paying.

How we built this teardown

  • Revenue and downloads are third-party estimates from AppKittie, snapshot Oct 16, 2026. Store intelligence estimates for a single app can be off by 30% or more. Treat them as a range, not a figure from the developer. Daily revenue and download series cover 300 days ending Oct 18, 2026.
  • Ads come from the public Meta Ad Library. "Days live" counts days since an ad first appeared. Spend and audience breakdowns start from Meta's EU transparency figures; country splits outside the EU are AppKittie models.
  • Prices, ratings and ranks come from the App Store (US storefront) on the same date. Prices differ by country and by paywall offer. Review stats use the latest 155 US reviews from Apple's public review feed.
  • Category medians are computed across 86 Education apps with active Meta ads in our set of 860 subscription apps.
  • Written by Hyunjong Choi. Ads, prices and estimates are refreshed every 30 to 90 days. Updated Oct 19, 2026.
